Calaptin 40 mg is an immediate-release tablet used to treat chest pain and prevent irregular heartbeats. It is an oral drug to lower blood pressure (hypertension), angina (chest pain) and certain heart rhythm problems. Verapamil is the main active ingredient present in this medicine. Verapamil is a calcium channel blocker; it works by relaxing the muscles of the heart and the blood vessels that increase the supply of oxygen and blood to the heart. These effects help drop the blood pressure and control the rate and rhythm of the heartbeat.
Calaptin is available in the form of at ablet to be taken orally by mouth with ample water; it is advised to take once or twice daily before or after having a meal as prescribed by the doctor. Generally, Calaptin 40 m is safe and well-tolerated. However, using the medicine under a doctor's supervision is advised.
