Azithral 250 mg contains Azithromycin, one of the antibiotics known as macrolides. It is a prescription treatment for the infections caused by certain bacteria and other micro-organisms, which include:

  • Chest, throat, or nasal infections
  • Ear infections
  • Skin and soft tissue infections
  • Sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhoea

You must speak to your doctor if you do not feel better.  

Always take Azithral 250 Tablets exactly as your doctor has advised you. Check with your doctor if you have any doubts about using the medicine. You should take Azithromycin either an hour before or two hours after a meal. Tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems as your doctor may need to alter the usual dose. Doctors usually prescribe a dose depending on a patient’s condition and severity. Always continue with the course, even if you feel better between the treatment. If your condition worsens or you do not begin to feel better within a few days or in case you develop a new infection, see your doctor immediately.

Do not take Azithral 250 mg if you are allergic hypersensitive to Azithromycin or any other macrolide antibiotic such as clarithromycin or erythromycin. An allergic may cause severe rash or wheezing, which can cause trouble swallowing/breathing. Talk to your doctor before taking Azithral 250 mg if you have ever had conditions like heart problems, kidney disease, muscle weakness, or liver problems. Also, let your doctor know if you are taking ergotamine to treat migraine, as these medicines should not be taken along with Azithromycin. Tell your doctor right away if you feel an abnormal heartbeat or get dizzy or suffer from any muscle weakness when taking the antibiotic. Tell your doctor at once if you have loose stools or diarrhoea during or after treatment. Avoid taking medicines to stop the diarrhoea unless advised by your doctor. If you continue to have loose stools, please inform your doctor.

You should let your doctor know if you have been using any other medicines. In particular, Azithral 250 mg may interact with the medicines given below:

  • Ergotamine
  • Antacids for indigestion
  • Colchicine for gout
  • Warfarin to prevent blood clots
  • Ciclosporin to suppress the immune system to prevent and treat rejection of a transplanted organ
  • Terfenadine for hay fever or a skin allergy

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may have conceived or plan to have a baby, discuss with your doctor before taking this medicine. The antibiotic drug is not expected to affect your ability to drive or use machines that requires you to alert.  

Tell your doctor immediately if you experience headache, dizziness, loss of appetite, deafness, visual disturbances dizziness, joint pain, skin rash, numbness of pins and needles, taste disturbance, being sick, indigestion, low number of lymphocytes, tiredness, or weakness. Rarely a patient using Azithromycin may develop an allergic reaction. The symptoms include blistering the skin, eyes, mouth, and genitals.
