Zipsydon 20 mg is available as a capsule for oral administration. Each capsule contains the active ingredient Ziprasidone which is a typical antipsychotic drug. It is prescribed to treat symptoms of schizophrenia and acute manic or mixed episodes related to bipolar disorder. Ziprasidone can also be used as a maintenance treatment for bipolar disorder when added to valproate and lithium. Ziprasidone is effective in maintaining the clinical improvement during long-term therapy. If the treatment is prescribed for an extended period, then your doctor may re-evaluate the long-term usefulness of the drug for the individual patient.

Only your doctor can know if Zipsydon is appropriate for you. Ziprasidone may be prescribed for you if you have schizophrenia or bipolar disease.

Symptoms of schizophrenia may include:

     — Hallucination

     — Unusual suspiciousness

     — Delusions

     — Becoming withdrawn from family and friends

Signs and symptoms associated with manic or mixed episodes of bipolar disorder may include:

     — Irritable mood

     — Talking very fast

     — Increased energy and restlessness

     — Little need for sleep

If you show a response to Zipsydon, your condition may improve while taking the capsules regularly. There is less chance of your symptoms returning. Do not discontinue treatment even when you feel better without discussing it with your doctor. It is also important that you should take the capsules with food.

Patients hypersensitive to Ziprasidone or other ingredients in the formulation should not take Zipsydon 20 mg. The antipsychotic drug is not approved for treating patients with dementia-related psychosis. Elderly patients (above 65 years of age) with a diagnosis of psychosis related to dementia treated with antipsychotics are at an increased risk of death.

Anything that can increase the chance of a heart rhythm abnormality should be avoided. Therefore, do not take Zipsydon 20 mg if:

     — You have certain heart disorders, for example, a recent heart attack, severe heart failure, or certain irregularities of heart rhythm.

     — You are currently taking medicines that should not be used in combination with Ziprasidone, for example, sotalol, quinidine, mesoridazine, chlorpromazine, pimozide, moxifloxacin, gatifloxacin, halofantrine, pentamidine, droperidol, levomethadyl acetate, tacrolimus, dofetilide, arsenic trioxide, thioridazine or probucol.

Only your doctor can decide whether Ziprasidone is right for you. Before you begin taking Ziprasidone, be sure to tell your doctor if you have had:

     — Heart-related illness or disease

     — Any problems with fainting or dizziness

     — Any problems with your liver

     — Are taking over-the-counter medicines, including natural or herbal remedies

     — Have low levels of potassium or magnesium in your blood

     — Are pregnant

Your doctor may want you to get an additional test to see if Zipsydon is appropriate for you.

Common side effects of Ziprasidone 20 mg include nausea, upset stomach, restlessness, constipation, dizziness, rash, diarrhoea, increased cough/runny nose, and abnormal muscle movements.
