Silofast 4 mg is approved to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It contains the active ingredient Silodosin, an alpha-adrenergic receptor blocker that remains one of the mainstays in treating male lower urinary tract symptoms and clinical BPH. BPH causes a man’s prostate to enlarge, leading to urinary problems such as difficulty passing urine and needing to visit the toilet frequently or urgently. This can also slow down the urine flow. If not treated, there is an increased risk that the patient’s urine flow will be completely blocked.

Silodosin causes the muscles of the bladder and prostate to relax. Thus, rapidly relieves symptoms and makes it easier for the patient to urinate. Silofast 4 mg has been shown to prevent the symptomatic progression of the disease.

Silofast capsules are advised to take in the dose and duration as per prescription. Patients can take it with or without food. Swallow the capsule whole without chewing or crushing it. One should not stop taking medicine without consulting the doctor, as it may worsen the symptoms. It is important to complete the course of treatment for maximum effects.

Before taking Silofast 4 mg, patients should inform their doctors about all the medications they have used for other health conditions. If a patient needs to undergo eye surgery due to glaucoma and cataract, then inform their ophthalmologist about the usage of the medicine. Patients with kidney or liver disorders must be cautious while receiving this medicine and then receive regular follow-ups per the doctor’s advice.

Simple lifestyle changes can help you manage your condition and improve symptoms. Ensure you urinate as soon as you feel the urge; however, avoid pushing too much to empty your bladder. Do not drink caffeinated or alcoholic drinks at night and a few hours before reaching bed. Silodosin may cause dizziness or weakness due to low blood pressure. Therefore, it is advisable not to drive or operate hazardous machines that require your attention. Caution should be taken in case of severe liver disease. Dose adjustment may be required. Consult a doctor for more information.

Some common side effects of Silofast 4 mg are dizziness, hypotension, headache, retrograde ejaculation, orthostatic hypotension, nasal congestion, and nasopharyngitis. If these side effects bother you or persist, consult your doctor immediately.
