Description

SKU 2710
US Brand Name Prazopress
Generic Name Prazosin
Manufacturer Sun Pharma

Prazopress XL 2.5 mg is used for the management and treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure). Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of having a heart attack or stroke. The medicine contains Prazosin, which is approved for treating high blood pressure alone or combined with other antihypertensive agents.

     –    For treatment of high blood pressure

Prazosin causes relaxation of blood vessels and makes it easier for your heart to pump blood around your body. This ultimately lowers blood pressure. If your blood pressure is controlled, you are less likely to have a heart attack or kidney problems.

     –    For treatment of heart failure

Prazopress XL 2.5 mg is usually given in the treatment of heart failure when other medicines are no longer working or have not worked at all. The medicine improves heart function and helps reduce the symptoms of congestion.

     –    For treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia

Prazopress XL 2.5 mg causes relaxation of muscles in your prostate gland and at the base of your bladder. This makes it easier for you to pass urine and reduce the urge to urinate urgently or frequently.

The route of administration of Prazopress XL 2.5 mg is oral. The medicine must be taken regularly to be effective. You may not feel the immediate benefit after taking the medicine. However, it works in the long term to keep you well. High blood pressure does not usually have symptoms, so keep taking the medicine even if you feel well. If you discontinue treatment, your blood pressure may increase and put you at high risk of stroke or heart attack. You may need to take the medicine for the rest of your life. When adding a diuretic or other antihypertensive drug, the dose of prazopress should be reduced.

Prazopress XL is contraindicated in patients with known sensitivity to Prazosin, quinazolines, or any of the other ingredients.

Concomitant usage of Prazosin with a PDE5 inhibitor can result in additive blood pressure-lowering effects and symptomatic hypotension. Therefore, PDE5 inhibitor treatment should be started at the lowest dose in patients with blood pressure issues.

There is no adequate research that establishes the safety of Prazosin in pregnant ladies. This medicine should be used during pregnancy only if there is a potential risk to the mother and fetus. Caution should be taken when this antihypertensive agent is administered to nursing ladies.

The most common side effects of Prazopress XL 2.5 mg include nausea, headache, dizziness, and unusual beating of the heart. Most side effects resolve when you get used to this medicine. It may also cause hypotension (too low blood pressure), especially when you begin taking this medicine. Your healthcare provider may be helpful with ways to prevent or reduce these adverse effects.

Serious side effects include first-dose hypotension, and therefore, it is recommended to take the initial dose at night. Also, people taking this antihypertensive agent may develop orthostatic hypotension and syncope. In the case of cataract surgeries, patients taking Prazopress may develop intraoperative floppy iris syndrome due to the drug’s effect.
