Oxra is a prescription medicine prescribed with diet and exercise to control blood glucose levels in patients with Type 2 diabetes. The medicine is not recommended for patients with Type 1 diabetes. The main goal is to treat Type 2 diabetes and to control blood sugar to normal levels. The medicine contains Dapagliflozin as the active ingredient, a member of a class of glucose-lowering drugs called SGLT2 inhibitors that are believed to lower blood sugar levels in patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus. The glucose-lowering drug lowers blood sugar levels by removing the excess sugar from the body in the urine.

Oxra 10 mg can be taken before or after consuming food at any time of the day. Your doctor will decide on the dose. Your doctor will recommend how often you take Oxra tablets based on your medical condition. Do not discontinue treatment without asking your doctor. If you do, your blood sugar levels may increase and put you at high risk of developing serious complications like kidney damage and blindness. This antidiabetic agent is only a part of the treatment program that should include a healthy diet, regular exercise, and weight reduction as instructed by the doctor.  

    — Do not take Oxra tablets in case of poorly functioning kidneys since glucose-lowering medicine requires good-functioning kidneys to work well.

    — Avoid the use if you are allergic to the active ingredient Dapagliflozin or other ingredients in the medicine.

    — It is not recommended for use in children

    — If you are children younger than 18, do not take this medicine.

Before taking Dapagliflozin, inform your doctor if you have liver problems, a urinary tract infection, or are on water pills. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should also consult their doctor before taking the antidiabetic agent. Excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided while taking it, as this may increase the risk of side effects. It is important to monitor your blood sugar levels regularly while taking the tablet.  

The most common side effects of Oxra  10 mg include:

    — Vaginal yeast infection and yeast infections if the penis

    — Stuffy or runny nose and sore throat

    — Changes in urination, including the urgent need to urinate in large amounts or at night

Most of these side effects of Dapagliflozin do not require medical attention and gradually disappear over time. However, if the side effects persist, reach out to your doctor.
