Oncotrex 5mg is prescribed to treat rheumatoid arthritis, severe cases of skin disease (psoriasis) and certain types of cancer. It also helps you prevent joint damage. Oncotrex medicine belongs to the class of medicine called ‘immunosuppressant’ known for reducing pain and inflammation and strengthening the immune system to treat the conditions of autoimmune diseases. Also known as a disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug (DMARD), the Oncotrex tablet is manufactured and distributed by Sun Pharma Laboratories Ltd. in India.
Oncotrex 5 mg Tablet contains 'Methotrexate' as the main component that works by reducing the function of the cells that cause inflammation in the joint tissues. Methotrexate can reduce pain and inflammation, slowing the progression of joint damage and disease over time. It also acts as ‘anticancer’ or ‘antimetabolite’ by reducing the growth of cancer cells as this medicine can block the access of such cells to folate (a form of vitamin B9). In other words, it can inhibit the enzymes responsible for nucleotide synthesis. Therefore, Methotrexate works as an antimetabolite and antifolate drug used for treating cancer and autoimmune diseases. This medicine also works by killing cells in the skin that grow too quickly and cause inflammation.
Oncotrex is available in 5 mg Tablets. This prescription medicine is taken one hour after food in the evening and once a week; the gap between two doses should be consistent. Its tablet can be swallowed with a glass of water, and do not break or chew the tablet. This medicine is also available for injection that a healthcare expert should administer into a large muscle.
Pregnant women should consult a doctor before taking Oncotrex 5mg. It is not recommended to breastfeeding women unless necessary. Avoid driving or operating any machine immediately after taking this medicine, as it may make you feel drowsy or dizzy for some time. Also, avoid alcohol during medication.
