Nevimune 200 mg is highly prescribed by doctors for the treatment of HIV and also for preventing HIV attacks. Nevirapine is the main active ingredient present in the medicine. It acts antagonistically to the retroviruses and is a highly prescribed medication for the treatment of HIV. This drug is used as active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) where it can be combined with other antiviral drugs to enhance its effectiveness.

This drug is one of the first medications to be approved for HIV treatment. Nevirapine acts as one of the nucleoside analogues and a reverse-transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI-Nucleoside Analogue Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitor). Reverse transcriptase is the enzyme used by HIV to multiply and synthesize its DNA. Nevirapine is also consumed by HIV positive mother who is pregnant to prevent HIV transmission to her child.

You should not take Nevimune 200 without consulting your doctor. Your doctor may prescribe it with two other antiretroviral drugs. Always take your medicine as prescribed by your doctor. Your doctor will prescribe the best medicine that suits you. Carefully follow the instructions given by your doctor. The usual suggested dose is one 200 mg tablet per day for the first two weeks of treatment. After two weeks, the usual dose is one 200 mg tablet twice daily. These two weeks have been shown to lower the risk of skin rash. Nevimune must always be taken together.

Do not take it if you are allergic to Nevirapine or any other ingredients of this medicine. Also, do not take Nevimune if you had taken this medicine before and had to stop the treatment because you suffered from severe skin rash, hypersensitivity, and liver inflammation. During the initial 18 weeks of treatment, you and your doctor must check out for signs of liver or skin or liver reactions. These can be severe and life-threatening. You are at high risk of getting these reactions during the first six weeks of treatment. If you develop severe rash or hypersensitivity accompanied by other side effects such as mouth sores, fever, blistering, inflammation of the eyes, general swelling, abdominal pain, shortness of breath, muscle or joint pain. You should discontinue treatment, and you must contact your doctor immediately as such reactions can be serious and life-threatening. If you ever have mild rash symptoms without any other reactions, please inform your doctor straight away. Your doctor will advise you whether you should stop treatment or not if you develop symptoms suggesting damage to the liver and must contact your doctor immediately.

Common side effects of Nevimune 200 are decreased white blood cells, abdominal pain, feeling sick, loose stools, feeling tired, fever, inflammation of the liver, vomiting, feeling sick, and allergic reactions. Rarely, a hypersensitive reaction may occur. Such reactions may appear in the form of anaphylaxis with symptoms such as swelling of the face, breathing difficulty and anaphylactic shock.
