Mycobutol 600 mg belongs to a class of medicines known as anti-tuberculosis, primarily used for treating and preventing tuberculosis (TB). Tuberculosis is a bacterial infection that affects the lungs and can even spread to other parts of the body, like the spine and brain. Ethambutol is only effective at treating bacterial infections and does not work against viral infections such as the common cold and flu. The medicine works by destroying the bacteria causing lung infection known as TB.   

For best results, follow the dose and duration as the doctor prescribes. Take Mycobutol before or after consuming food, preferably at the same time of the day. Finish the full course of treatment without skipping any doses, even if you start feeling good. Treatment discontinuation without a doctor’s permission can result in treatment failure and in the development of drug-resistant tuberculosis, which can lead to serious health complications. Some people may experience changes in vision and color blindness as the side effects of the medicine. It is advised to take antacids containing aluminum at least four hours before or after taking Mycobutol to avoid drug interaction.

Do not take Ethambutol if you are allergic to this medicine or other ingredients. Mycobutol is not recommended for use in children below 13 years of age and should be used with caution in children 13 years of age and older. It is not recommended for use in patients with certain eye problems, pregnant women, breastfeeding women, or children below 13 years of age.

Antibiotic medicine should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems, liver diseases, and diabetes. Sometimes, medications are unsafe when you take them with certain other medications and food. Taking them together can cause adverse effects. Let your healthcare provider know of all the medications that you have been using, including antacids and vitamins. Antacids interfere with Ethambutol, making it less effective. Take the antibiotic medicine an hour before or two hours after the antacids.

Mycobutol 600 mg may cause side effects; seek medical help if side effects include vomiting, upset stomach, loss of appetite, numbness, and tingling in the hands or feet. Other side effects that require medical help include skin rash, sudden change in vision, Blurred vision, itching, inability to see red and green colors, and skin rash.
