Mycobutol 400 mg helps to treat tuberculosis and reduces the spread of infection. It contains the active ingredient Ethambutol, an antibiotic medicine that prevents the growth of tuberculosis bacteria in the body. The bacteria majorly attack the lungs but can attack any body part, such as the brain, spine, and kidney. Mycobutol should be administered with other medicines to prevent the spread of infection.  

Swallow the medicine with an adequate amount of water. Do not chew or crush the medicine. Try to take the tablet at the same time daily. Your healthcare specialist will decide the correct dose and duration of Mycobutol depending on your age, body weight, and disease condition. To help clear up tuberculosis infection completely, you must stop taking the medicine for the full time it is prescribed to you, even if you begin to feel better. Make sure you do not miss any doses.   

Mycobutol is not recommended for use in children under 13 years of age, but if needed, it should be used with caution in children 13 years of age and older and elderly patients who are above 65 years of age. Antibiotic medicine is not recommended in patients with certain eye problems. Before taking Ethambutol 400 mg tablet, inform your health care specialist if you have liver diseases, blood disorders, diabetes, or kidney problems. Antibiotic medicine is not recommended for use among pregnant and breastfeeding women.

Furthermore, any symptoms of vision problems should be informed to the health care professional. Ethambutol is generally not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women. Use it with caution if you are suffering from renal and liver problems. Do not drive or operate machines if you have eyesight problems, dizziness, disorientation, or tingling/numbness in the hands or feet after taking mycobutol 400 mg tablet.   

Take immediate medical help if you have any signs of an allergic reaction, such as hives, trouble breathing, or swelling of the lips, face, tongue, or throat. Ethambutol can give rise to serious vision problems, including vision loss that may be permanent. Discontinue this antibiotic medicine and seek medical help if you develop problems with one or both of your eyes, such as: 

     –    Blurred vision

     –    Rouble focussing

     –    Loss of color vision

     –    Increased sensitivity of your eyes to light

     –    Pain with eye movement, pain behind your eyes

Common side effects may include headache, itching, rash, joint pain, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, stomach pain, and loss of appetite.
