Mesacol CR 500mg Tablet is an anti-inflammatory medicine widely recommended to treat certain types of bowel disease (ulcerative colitis), intestinal inflammation and Crohn’s ileocolitis. It can treat mild to moderately active ulcerative proctitis that raises some symptoms like bloody diarrhea, rectal bleeding, and ulcerations of the rectum lining. It acts locally in the rectum to diagnose these symptoms, and therefore the medicine is intended for rectal use only. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd in India manufactures Mesacol tablets.

Mesacol CR tablet contains mesalamine (mesalazine) as its key component, which belongs to the medicines called salicylates. It has anti-inflammatory properties that can treat and prevent mild-to-moderate ulcerative colitis conditions. This medicine works by reducing the production of certain chemical substances such as prostaglandins responsible for causing internal pain and swelling. Therefore, it provides relief by reducing inflammation (swelling) in the intestines.

Mesacol tablets are available in 400, 500, 800 and 1200 mg doses. Your doctor will prescribe the appropriate dose of the medicine after assessing your medical condition. Take medicine orally with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew or break the tablet before taking it. The granules form of Mesacol CR 1 gm can be taken with orange juice.

You should avoid Mesacol tablet if you are allergic to mesalamine or any other content of this medicine. People who are allergic to aspirin or have blood disorders and kidney problems should take extra precautions before taking this medicine. It is not recommended for children below 2 years, and Mesacol CR Granules 1 gm granules are not made for children below 6 years. Pregnant women should inform their doctor before taking this medicine. Mesacol CR 500mg is not recommended for breastfeeding women unless necessary.
