Januvia 50 mg is a once-daily prescription anti-diabetic medicine. It contains the active ingredient Sitagliptin, a class of medicines called DPP-4 inhibitors that effectively lowers blood glucose levels in adults with type 2 diabetes. Sitagliptin is not for people with Type 1 diabetes. Also, it is not recommended for those with increased ketone in their blood or urine. The anti-diabetic agent increases the level of insulin produced after a meal and decreases the amount of sugar made by the body. Your doctor may prescribe this medicine to lower blood sugar too high because you have type 2 diabetes. Your doctor may prescribe this medicine with certain other medicines to cause a significant reduction in blood sugar levels.
You should take medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. Check with your doctor if you are not sure how many tablets you need to take or for what time you need to continue treatment. Since diabetes is a chronic disease, you may need to use an anti-diabetic agent for the rest of your life, along with diet and regular exercise. The usual recommended dose is one 50 mg film-coated tablet once a day by mouth. If you have kidney problems, you may be asked to take a lower dose. Consult your doctor to know the correct dose. You can take the tablet before or after consuming food. Proper diet and regular exercise can help your body use its blood sugar better. It is important to stick to the diet and exercise recommended by your doctor while taking this Sitagliptin formulation. Taking more tablets will not benefit you; instead, it may cause serious side effects. Contact your doctor immediately if you take more tablets than the prescribed amount.
Do not take Januvia 50 mg if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in the medicine, including Sitagliptin. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction include raised red patches on your skin, rash, swelling of the face/lips/tongue/throat, which can cause breathing or swallowing issues.Â
Cases of inflammation of the pancreas have been reported in patients receiving Sitagliptin strength. If you develop blistering of the skin, it may signify a serious skin condition called bullous pemphigoid. Tell your doctor if you have a history of gallstones, kidney diseases, diabetic ketoacidosis, alcohol dependence, very high levels of triglycerides or an allergic reaction to Sitagliptin. The anti-diabetic agent rarely causes episodes of low blood sugar because it does not work when your blood glucose level is low.
Discontinue treatment and contact a doctor immediately if you develop severe and persistent pain in the abdomen, which might travel to your back with or without nausea and vomiting, as these could be an indication of pancreatitis.Â
If you have a serious allergic reaction, include rash, hive blisters on the skin, swelling of the face/lips/tongue/throat that may cause difficulty breathing and swallowing. If this is the case with you, your doctor may prescribe a medicine to treat your allergic reaction and an alternative for your diabetes treatment.
