US Brand Name Hytrin
Strength 1mg
Generic Name Terazosin

Hytrin effectively treats hypertension (high blood pressure) and Benign prostatic hyperplasia (prostate gland enlargement). It is employed in a general treatment program in combination with a thiazide diuretic and other antihypertensive drugs for proper patient response. It can be tried as a monotherapy in patients with other agents that are inappropriate or cause side effects. Terazosin (1mg) is the main salt composition of the Hytrin  -1 tablet.

In hypertension

Hytrin 1 mg cause your blood vessels to relax and makes it easier for the heart to pump blood around your body. This lowers blood pressure, and if your blood pressure is controlled, you are less at risk of having a kidney problem, stroke, or heart attack. It is important to take your antihypertensive drug regularly to be effective. You may not feel immediate benefit just after taking the pill; however, it works in the long term to keep you well in the future.

In BPH

Terazosin is also recommended for symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia and not for prostate cancer and prostate cancer. It blocks smooth muscle receptors of the bladder, neck and prostate. This blockage causes the smooth muscle of the bladder, neck, and prostate to relax, rapidly improving urine flow and symptoms within two weeks. Men can have prostate cancer and BPH at the same time. Hytrin is not recommended for men with prostate cancer.

Follow your doctor's instructions carefully about how to take Hytrin tablets. The initial dose is 1 mg at bedtime. The same dose should be maintained during the first week of treatment and taken as prescribed by your doctor. Your dose will gradually increase or decrease depending on how well you respond to the treatment.

An elderly dosage should be kept as low as possible, and dose increments should be made under close supervision.

If you are pregnant or thinking about becoming pregnant or breastfeeding, ask your doctor before you take Hytrin 1 mg. Also, let your doctor know before taking it if you have liver disease, kidney disorder, or if you are having eye surgery for a cataract. It is important to keep a close eye on your blood pressure levels. You will be able to see an effect on your symptoms in 2 to 4 weeks.

While taking the Terazosin tablet, you should have regular check-ups to monitor your blood pressure and evaluate your BPH progress. In general, you should avoid using phosphodiesterase (PDE5) inhibitors such as sildenafil, vardenafil, and tadalafil when taking terazosin tablets due to the risk of developing serious hypotension (episodes of low blood pressure).

Hytrin's most common side effects include headache, nausea, drowsiness, dizziness, and unusual beating of the heart. Most side effects resolve once you get used to the medicine. If they bother you or do not go away, speak to your doctor. To lower the chance of dizziness, stand slowly if you have been sitting or lying down. It may also cause a sudden drop in blood pressure. You may feel dizzy, lightheaded, or faint, particularly after you get up from bed or a chair. This is more likely to occur after you take the first dose of the medicine. It can also happen if you stop the treatment and then restart it.

Some side effects are serious and need immediate medical help. Your doctor may advise you on preventing or reducing side effects.
