Geftinat 250 mg for Cancer Treatment — Trusted Generic Iressa

Geftinat 250 mg contains Gefitinib, which blocks the epidermal growth factor (EGFR) protein. This protein is responsible for the growth and spreading of cancer cells. It is indicated for treating adults with nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC). In NSCLC, malignant (cancer) cells form in the tissues of the lung.

Always take medicines exactly as your doctor has instructed. Check with your doctor if you have any doubts about using this medicine. The recommended dose is one 250 mg tablet a day. Make sure you take the tablet at the same time each day. You may take it before or after consuming food. Avoid taking antacids two hours before or one hour after taking the Geftinat tablet. Patients with trouble swallowing the tablet may dissolve it in half a glass of water. Make sure you do not use any other liquids. Do not crush the pill. Swirl the water until the pill has dissolved. This process may take up to twenty minutes. Drink the liquid right away. Once you finish the solution, rinse the glass with half a glass of water and drink it.

Geftinat 250 can lead to severe complications if consumed in some cases. Avoid using this medicine under the following conditions:

What is Geftinat 250 mg used for?

Geftinat 250 mg contains gefitinib, a targeted cancer medicine that works by blocking proteins that help certain lung cancer cells grow. Your doctor prescribes it for non-small cell lung cancer (a common type of lung cancer) if your cancer cells have specific genetic mutations [changes in genes]. It's used when standard chemotherapy [strong anti-cancer drugs] hasn't worked or isn't suitable for you. Gefitinib slows or stops cancer cell growth, helping improve survival and quality of life.

How does Geftinat 250 mg work in the body?

Geftinat 250 mg works by blocking a protein called EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor) on cancer cells. This protein normally sends signals that tell cancer cells to grow and divide. By stopping these signals, gefitinib slows or stops the cancer cells from multiplying. It's particularly effective against lung cancers where cancer cells have specific EGFR mutations (genetic changes). The medicine targets these abnormal cells while having less effect on normal, healthy cells in your body.

How much Geftinat 250 mg should I take, and how often?

Take one Geftinat 250 mg tablet by mouth once daily, with or without food. Your doctor may adjust your dose based on how well the medicine works and how your body responds to it. Always take it exactly as prescribed on your label. Do not change your dose without speaking to your doctor first. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it's almost time for your next dose—then skip the missed dose and continue your regular schedule.

How long should I keep using Geftinat 250 mg?

Your doctor will determine how long you should take Geftinat 250 mg based on your condition, how well it works for you, and any side effects you experience. Some patients take it for several months, while others may continue longer. Never stop taking Geftinat without consulting your doctor, as this could affect your treatment. Your doctor will monitor you regularly and discuss with you whether to continue, adjust, or stop this medicine.

What things can affect how well Geftinat 250 mg works?

Several factors can affect how well Geftinat works. Taking it with food may reduce how much your body absorbs, so take it on an empty stomach if possible. Other medicines, especially those that affect liver function, can interfere with how your body processes Geftinat. Certain stomach acid-reducing medicines can lower its effectiveness. Your liver and kidney function also matter—if these organs aren't working well, the medicine may build up in your system. Smoking can reduce how well it works. Always tell your doctor about all medicines you take and any health conditions affecting your liver or kidneys.

How quickly will I notice Geftinat 250 mg working?

Geftinat 250 mg (gefitinib, a targeted cancer medicine) typically takes several weeks to show its effects. You may not notice changes immediately—it can take 4 to 8 weeks or longer before improvements in symptoms or tumour response become visible on scans. Your doctor will monitor your progress through blood tests and imaging to assess how well the medicine is working. Individual responses vary based on your specific condition and cancer type.

Are there any serious warning signs I should watch out for with Geftinat 250 mg?

Gefitinib can cause serious side effects. Watch for severe skin reactions (rash, blistering, peeling), difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, severe eye problems (pain, vision changes), yellowing of skin or eyes, unusual bleeding or bruising, and signs of infection (fever, chills). Stop taking Gefitinib immediately and contact your doctor if you experience any of these. Never stop or change your treatment without medical advice. Report all symptoms promptly for proper evaluation.

Is it safe to use Geftinat 250 mg for a long period of time?

Geftinat contains gefitinib, a targeted cancer medicine designed for long-term use in eligible patients. Safety during extended treatment depends on your individual health, the type of cancer being treated, and how your body responds. Your doctor monitors you regularly with blood tests and imaging to check for side effects and treatment effectiveness. Some patients use it for months or years safely, while others may need adjustments. Never stop or change your treatment without consulting your doctor. Always report new symptoms or concerns to your healthcare team immediately.

Which medicines should I avoid while using Geftinat 250 mg?

Geftinat 250 mg can interact with several medicines. Avoid taking warfarin (a blood thinner) or other anticoagulants [medicines that prevent blood clots], as gefitinib may increase their effect. Tell your doctor before using stomach acid reducers like omeprazole, as they can lower gefitinib levels in your body. Certain seizure medicines, rifampicin (an antibiotic), and St John's Wort (a herbal supplement) may also reduce how well gefitinib works. Always inform your doctor about all medicines, vitamins, and supplements you take before starting gefitinib. Your doctor will check for unsafe combinations and adjust your treatment if needed.

Can I use Geftinat 250 mg alongside my other medicines or supplements?

Geftinat 250 mg can interact with other medicines and supplements, so you must tell your doctor about everything you're taking before starting treatment. Certain medicines—including some blood thinners, heart medications, and supplements like St. John's Wort—may affect how Geftinat works or increase side effects. Your doctor will check for dangerous interactions and may adjust your doses if needed. Never start, stop, or change any medicine without speaking to your doctor first, as this could affect your cancer treatment's effectiveness or safety.

Do I need a different dose of Geftinat 250 mg if I have kidney or liver problems?

Your doctor may need to adjust your Geftinat dose if you have kidney or liver problems, as these organs help your body process the medicine. Gefitinib (the active ingredient) is broken down mainly by your liver, so liver disease could affect how your body handles it. Always tell your doctor about any kidney or liver issues before starting Geftinat. Your doctor will decide the right dose for your individual situation and may monitor you more closely during treatment.

Is Geftinat 250 mg safe to take during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?

Geftinat 250 mg should not be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Gefitinib (the active ingredient) can harm an unborn baby and may pass into breast milk, potentially affecting a nursing infant. If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, tell your doctor before taking this medicine. Your doctor will discuss safer treatment options with you. Do not stop taking Geftinat without medical advice if you are already using it.

What should I discuss with my doctor before starting Geftinat 250 mg?

Before starting Geftinat 250 mg, tell your doctor about any liver or kidney problems you have, as your body needs to process this medicine safely. Mention all other medicines you're taking, including supplements, as some may interact with gefitinib (a cancer-fighting drug). Let your doctor know if you're pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding, since this medicine can harm an unborn baby or pass into breast milk. Discuss any eye problems, heart conditions, or severe diarrhea you've experienced. Your doctor will check if Geftinat is right for you based on your health history and current medications.

Which strength of Geftinat 250 mg is most commonly recommended?

Geftinat 250 mg is the standard and most commonly recommended strength for treating non-small cell lung cancer (a type of lung cancer). Your doctor will prescribe this dose based on your individual condition, cancer stage, and how your body responds to treatment. Do not change your dose without speaking to your doctor first. Take your tablet exactly as prescribed.
