Duphaston 10 mg contains an active ingredient, dihydrotestosterone, an artificial hormone similar to the progesterone hormone produced by your body. Medicines like Duphaston are known as progestogens. It can be used alone or in combination with estrogen. Whether you have been prescribed dihydrotestosterone with estrogen varies for what you are taking medicine for.  

Duphaston 10 mg is effective in treating problems that you may develop when your body is not producing enough progesterone:

   — To relieve painful periods

   — To provide symptomatic relief from endometriosis (a condition in which the growth of the womb lining outside the womb). 

   — To control irregular periods   

   — To relieve the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome

   — To treat infertility issues happen due to low levels of progesterone

   — To stop or prevent unusually heavy or long periods 

   — To re-start menstrual cycle that has stopped before the menopause 

When used for treating the signs and symptoms of menopause, the treatment is referred to as hormone replacement therapy or HRT. Duphaston 10 mg is used with estrogen to treat the symptoms of menopause. The symptoms may vary from one woman to another. Duphaston treats problems you may develop when your body is not producing enough progesterone. This is normally made in your ovaries from puberty until your menopause. The progesterone in the Duphaston tablet replaces this missing hormone. Normally, progesterone is balanced against the most important female hormone, estrogen.

Your doctor may also prescribe estrogen medicine to get the right hormone balance. For some women using hormone replacement therapy, taking only estrogen can cause abnormal thickening of the uterus lining. This may also happen if you do not have a uterus or a history of endometriosis. Dihydrotestosterone tablets for part of your monthly cycle help prevent and build up your womb lining.

Swallow the tablet with a glass full of water. You can take your tablet before or after consuming food. The number of pills you need to take usually depends on what you are being treated for. Follow your doctor’s advice, and your doctor will decide the best time for you to take Duphaston 10 mg. if you are still having natural periods, day one of your cycle is when you begin bleeding. If you do not have natural periods, your doctor will determine when to start day one of the cycle and when to let you start taking your tablets. Consult your doctor for the correct dosing regimen.  

Before starting treatment with Duphaston 10 mg because of dysfunctional uterine bleeding, an organic cause should be excluded. Unstoppable bleeding and spotting may happen during the first months of treatment if bleeding and spots occur when treatment has already been underway for some time or continue when treatment is discontinued. If any of the following conditions occurs during use for the first time or gets worse, discontinue treatment immediately:

   — An increase in the blood pressure

   — Exceptionally severe headache, migraine, or symptoms that may indicate cerebral ischemia. 

   — Occurrence of venous thromboembolism (blood clots in the veins)

Common side effects of taking Duphaston 10 mg include migraine, headache, nausea, breast pain, painful, heavy, or irregular periods, and no periods or periods happening less than normal.
