This allows an easier urine flow through the urethra and facilitates easier urination. Contiflois a prescription treatment for men with difficulties associated with benign prostate enlargements, such as the strong urge to urinate, double voiding, difficulty urination, and frequent urination during the night and the day.

Take Contiflo exactly as your doctor has told you. Check with your doctor if you have any doubts about this medicine's usage. One capsule daily should be taken after breakfast or the day's first meal. Swallow the capsule as a whole and do not chew or crush it.

Contiflo should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity or any other ingredient in the medicine. It should not be used in patients with a history of orthostatic hypotension, renal impairment, and hepatic insufficiency.

Talk to your doctor before taking Contiflo tablets. On long-term use of this medicine, regular medical checkups are necessary. Angioedema (swelling due to allergic reaction) has been reported after using Contiflo. In case of severe swelling, seek immediate medical attention and discontinue using the tamsulosin capsule. The product should not be reused. If you are planning to undergo cataract surgery, please inform your surgeon that you are receiving tamsulosin capsules. Tamsulosin tablets are designed only for the treatment of men; therefore, information on pregnancy and pregnancy is irrelevant. Difficulties with ejaculation have been reported in association with Contiflo. Dizziness may occur during the treatment. Therefore activities requiring increased attention should be performed only if the doctor allows.

With Tamsulosin, a reduction in blood pressure can occur in individual cases during treatment with tamsulosin capsules which may result in syncope. When you first experience the signs of orthostatic hypotension (weakness, dizziness), the patient should sit or lie down until the symptoms have resolved. Before tamsulosin treatment is initiated, your doctor will examine you to exclude the presence of other conditions which can cause symptoms, such as benign prostatic hyperplasia. The safety of Contiflo in patients with myocardial infarction has been formally assessed. The intraoperative floppy syndrome was observed during cataract surgery in some patients treated with Tamsulosin.

Also, certain drugs may interact with  Tamsulosin. These are amitriptyline, glibenclamide, finasteride, and salbutamol. Warfarin and diclofenac, however, may increase the elimination of Tamsulosin.

Contiflo tablets show side effects like dizziness and erectile dysfunction. It can cause dizziness in some people, so you should avoid driving vehicles or operating machines if you feel dizzy. Please consult your doctor if these side effects do not go away or worsen.

What is Contiflo D 0.5/0.4mg used for?

Contiflo D is used to treat enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia). It contains two active ingredients: tamsulosin, which relaxes muscles in the prostate and bladder neck to improve urine flow, and dutasteride, which reduces the size of the prostate by lowering hormone levels. Together, they help relieve urinary symptoms such as difficulty starting urination, weak stream, and frequent urination, especially at night. This combination is typically prescribed when either medicine alone is not effective enough.

How does Contiflo D 0.5/0.4mg work in the body?

Contiflo D contains two medicines that work together to treat enlarged prostate. Tamsulosin relaxes muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, making it easier to urinate. Dutasteride blocks an enzyme [a protein that speeds up chemical reactions] that converts testosterone into a substance causing prostate growth, gradually shrinking the enlarged tissue. Together, they relieve urinary symptoms like weak flow and frequent urination by both immediate muscle relaxation and long-term reduction of prostate size.

How long should I keep using Contiflo D 0.5/0.4mg?

You should continue taking Contiflo D for as long as your doctor recommends. Benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate) is a chronic condition, so most men take this medicine long-term—often for months or years—to keep symptoms controlled. Do not stop taking it without speaking to your doctor first, as your symptoms may return. Your doctor will monitor your progress during regular check-ups and tell you if you need to continue or adjust your treatment.

What should I do if I forget to take a dose of Contiflo D 0.5/0.4mg?

If you forget a dose of Contiflo D, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it's almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next one at the regular time. Never double up on doses to make up for a missed one. Since Contiflo D works best when taken regularly, try to take it at the same time each day to help you remember. If you frequently miss doses, set a daily alarm or use a pill organizer to stay on track.

What things can affect how well Contiflo D 0.5/0.4mg works?

Several factors can affect how well Contiflo D works. Taking it consistently at the same time each day helps maintain steady medicine levels in your body. Food may affect absorption, so follow your doctor's instructions about whether to take it with or without meals. Certain medicines, particularly other prostate or blood pressure treatments, can interact with Contiflo D and reduce its effectiveness. Liver or kidney problems may slow how your body processes the medicine. Drinking excessive alcohol can worsen urinary symptoms. Your age and overall health also play a role. Always inform your doctor about all medicines you take and any health conditions you have.

How will I know if Contiflo D 0.5/0.4mg is working for me?

You'll notice Contiflo D is working when your urinary symptoms improve. Most men experience a stronger, steadier urine flow within 2–4 weeks. You may also see reduced nighttime bathroom visits, less urgency to urinate, and easier emptying of your bladder. Some improvement can take 3–6 months as dutasteride (a medicine that shrinks prostate tissue) works gradually. Keep track of your symptoms and discuss progress with your doctor at follow-up appointments, as they can also measure improvement through specific tests.

What are the common side effects of Contiflo D 0.5/0.4mg, and should I be worried?

Contiflo D commonly causes dizziness, weakness, and headache, especially when you first start taking it. Some men experience ejaculation problems or reduced sexual desire. Nasal congestion and diarrhea may also occur. Most side effects are mild and improve as your body adjusts. However, stop taking it and contact your doctor immediately if you develop fainting, severe dizziness, chest pain, or signs of an allergic reaction like rash or difficulty breathing. Always report any side effects to your doctor—do not stop taking this medicine without medical advice.

Is it safe to use Contiflo D 0.5/0.4mg for a long period of time?

Contiflo D is designed for long-term use in treating benign prostate enlargement (non-cancerous prostate growth). Many men take it safely for years. Both ingredients—tamsulosin (helps urine flow) and dutasteride (shrinks prostate tissue)—have established safety records with extended treatment. However, your doctor should monitor you periodically with blood tests and check-ups to ensure the medicine continues working well and isn't causing problems. Don't stop taking it without consulting your doctor, as symptoms may return. Always report any new side effects to your healthcare provider.

Can I use Contiflo D 0.5/0.4mg alongside my other medicines or supplements?

Contiflo D can interact with certain medicines and supplements, so you must check with your doctor or pharmacist before using it alongside other treatments. Some blood pressure medicines, other prostate medicines, and certain supplements may not mix well with Contiflo D. Your doctor knows your complete medical history and can safely advise which combinations work for you. Never start or stop any medicine without consulting your healthcare provider first.

Is it safe to drink alcohol while taking Contiflo D 0.5/0.4mg?

Drinking alcohol while taking Contiflo D is generally safe in moderation, but alcohol may increase side effects like dizziness, lightheadedness, or low blood pressure. These effects happen because both alcohol and this medicine can lower your blood pressure. If you drink, do so sparingly and avoid driving or operating machinery if you feel dizzy. Talk to your doctor about safe alcohol limits for your situation, especially if you have heart or liver problems. Always follow your doctor's guidance.

Can older adults or children use Contiflo D 0.5/0.4mg safely?

Contiflo D is not suitable for children—it treats enlarged prostate, a condition only adult men develop. Older men can use it safely, but your doctor must check your kidney and liver function first, as these organs may work differently with age. Your doctor will also review any other medicines you take, as Contiflo D can interact with certain drugs. Never start or stop this medicine without consulting your doctor.

Do I need a different dose of Contiflo D 0.5/0.4mg if I have kidney or liver problems?

If you have kidney or liver problems, you may need a different dose of Contiflo D. Tamsulosin (one of the active ingredients) is processed by your liver, and dutasteride (the other ingredient) is also metabolised [broken down] by your body in ways that can be affected by kidney or liver disease. Your doctor needs to know about any kidney or liver problems before you start taking this medicine, as they may adjust your dose or monitor you more closely. Always tell your doctor about your medical history.

What are my options if Contiflo D 0.5/0.4mg does not agree with me?

If Contiflo D 0.5/0.4mg isn't working well for you, speak to your doctor before making any changes. Your doctor may adjust your dose, switch you to a different medicine, or try an alternative combination. There are other treatments available for prostate problems, including different alpha-blockers (medicines that relax muscles in the prostate) or 5-alpha reductase inhibitors (medicines that reduce prostate size). Your doctor will choose the best option based on your symptoms and health. Never stop taking Contiflo D suddenly without medical advice.

How does Contiflo D 0.5/0.4mg compare to other treatments used for the same condition?

Contiflo D combines two medicines: tamsulosin (which relaxes bladder muscles) and dutasteride (which shrinks the prostate). This dual action works differently than single-ingredient treatments. Tamsulosin alone provides quick symptom relief, while dutasteride alone takes months to work but prevents prostate growth long-term. Contiflo D offers both benefits together, making it effective for moderate-to-severe symptoms in men needing both rapid and sustained improvement. Your doctor will choose based on your specific symptoms and prostate size.

How do I safely dispose of leftover or out-of-date Contiflo D 0.5/0.4mg?

Do not throw Contiflo D tablets in the bin or flush them down the toilet. Ask your pharmacist or doctor how to dispose of leftover or out-of-date tablets safely—many pharmacies have disposal schemes where you can return unused medicines free of charge. If no scheme is available locally, your pharmacist can advise on the safest method. Never leave medicines where children or pets can access them.

How should I store Contiflo D 0.5/0.4mg at home, and what happens if it expires?

Store Contiflo D tablets in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep them in the original container with the lid tightly closed. Do not freeze. Once expired, the medicine may lose strength and become less effective at treating your urinary symptoms. Never use expired tablets—dispose of them safely at a pharmacy or according to local guidelines, then get a fresh supply from ReliableRxPharmacy.
