Betnesol 0.5 mg contains betamethasone, which belongs to a group of medicines known as steroids. Corticosteroids or steroids occur naturally in the body and help to maintain health and well-being. Betnesol boosts your body with extra corticosteroids. It effectively treats various illnesses involving inflammation in the body. Betamethasone causes a significant reduction in inflammation, which could otherwise make your condition worse. You must take this steroid medication to get the maximum benefit.

     –    Asthma and severe allergic reactions

     –    Rheumatoid arthritis

     –    Certain conditions of the blood

     –    Autoimmune disorders such as lupus erythematosus

     –    Some connective tissue disorders

Betnesol reduces inflammation (tenderness, redness, swelling, and heat) in the body. It is also useful in preventing organ transplant rejection following organ transplant surgery.   

Your doctor will tell you how many tablets to take each day. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass full of water. It is essential to take it regularly and at a fixed time. Follow the instructions given on your prescription and do not exceed the dose more than the recommended amount. Do not discontinue treatment as it may lead to withdrawal symptoms like painful, itchy skin, fever, runny nose, loss of weight, swelling and pain in your eyes, etc. 

Before using Betnesol, check with your physician if you have ever had severe depression. Mental problems can occur while taking steroids like Betnesol tablets. The problem can be serious and usually begins within a few days or weeks of starting the medicine. Mental problems are more likely to occur at high doses. This problem usually dissolves if the dose is lowered or the medicines are stopped. However, if the problem does occur, they might require medical attention. This is especially important if you are depressed or thinking about hurting yourself. In a few cases, mental problems have developed when doses are lowered or stopped. Taking corticosteroids for a long time during pregnancy can slow down the baby’s growth in the womb and may temporarily affect the baby’s heart and body movements.

If you become pregnant while taking this medicine, please inform your doctor, but do not discontinue treatment unless told to do so. If you are breastfeeding, the steroid may enter the baby and lower the hormone level if you take high doses for a long time. Avoid coming in contact with anyone who has shingles, chickenpox, or measles, as it could be severe if you caught it from them.  

Betnesol 0.5 mg can cause side effects in some people. Some side effects, such as stomach problems and mood changes, can happen immediately. If you develop problems, see your doctor immediately. Some side effects only develop after weeks or months. These include weakness of the arms and legs.
