Yaz is a progestin/estrogen combined oral contraceptive, indicated for use by women to:

• Prevent pregnancy  
• Treat symptoms of the premenstrual dysphoric disorder for women who choose to use a contraceptive pill as their method of contraception
• Treat moderate acne vulgaris in females at least 14 years old, who have no known contraindications to oral contraceptive treatment and have attained menarche. The medicine should be used for the treatment of acne only if the patient wants an oral contraceptive to prevent pregnancy

Yaz is a combined oral contraceptive medicine containing the synthetic progestogen Drospirenone and the synthetic estrogen, Ethinylestradiol. Each film-coated Yaz tablet contains 3 mg of Drospirenone and 0.02 mg of Ethinylestradiol.  

Take one tablet daily at the same time every day. To attain maximum effectiveness, the medicine must be taken exactly as directed. Take the tablet after the evening meal or at bedtime with a glass of water. It can be taken before or after meals. • The use of combined oral contraceptives increases the risk of venous thromboembolism. Stop Yaz if an arterial or venous thrombotic event occurs. • Yaz tablets contain 3 mg of Drospirenone, which has anti-mineralocorticoid activity, including the potential for hyperkalemia in high-risk patients. The medicine should not be used in patients with hyperkalemia. 
• Close monitoring is required for women with well-controlled blood pressure and stopping the medicine if blood pressure increases significantly. Women with uncontrolled hypertension should not take combined oral contraceptives.
• The drug may decrease glucose intolerance in a dose-related fashion. Careful monitoring is required in women with a prior history of diabetes. 
• If a woman taking Yaz develops new recurrent, persistent or severe headaches, evaluate the cause and discontinue it if indicated. An increase in the severity of migraine during the treatment with Yaz may be a reason for the immediate discontinuation of the medicine. Ask your doctor for more information.
• Unscheduled bleeding and spotting sometimes occur in women on combined oral contraceptives, especially during three months of use. If bleeding persists or occurs after previously regular cycles, check for causes such as malignancy or pregnancy.
