Thyronorm 25 mcg is a prescription treatment for the underactive thyroid gland, which can lead to medical conditions like goiters, thyroid gland cancer, and infertility caused due to low levels of thyroid hormone secretion. The thyroid gland cannot secrete adequate thyroid hormones in case of severe injury, exposure to radiation, and surgery. Proper thyroid hormone levels are very necessary for sound mental and physical development. Thyroxine sodium is the main active ingredient in the drug Thyronorm 25 mcg. This medicine is a synthetic composition of the thyroid hormone the thyroid gland produces. It treats low active thyroid gland secretion, also known as hypothyroidism.

Thyroxine sodium replaces a hormone normally produced by the thyroid gland. Generally, this kind of hormonal replacement therapy is to be taken for life. It may take several weeks before patients notice an improvement in symptoms. Patients are instructed to take Thyronorm as a single dose, preferably on an empty stomach, one hour to one hour before breakfast. Note that iron, calcium supplements and antacids can decrease the absorption of Levothyroxine. One should not take these tablets within four hours of these agents.

Thyronorm 25 mcg should not be used as a primary or adjunctive therapy in a weight control program. Patients must notify their doctor if they take other medications, including prescription and over-the-counter products. Patients should also tell their healthcare provider of any other medical condition they have, particularly diabetes, heart disease, adrenal or pituitary gland disorders, or clotting diseases, as the dose of medicines used to control these other conditions may require to be adjusted while they are receiving Thyronorm tablet.

Pregnant and breastfeeding women should first consult their doctor before taking Thyroxine sodium. The addition of hormonal replacement therapy in patients with diabetes may worsen blood sugar levels and increase antidiabetic drugs and insulin requirements. Carefully monitor your blood sugar level when thyroid therapy starts, changes or discontinues. Thyroxine sodium increases the response to oral anticoagulant therapy. Therefore, a decrease in the anticoagulant dose may be warranted with correction of the hypothyroid state or when the dose of Thyroxine sodium is increased.

Patients should notify their doctor if they experience chest pain, rapid or irregular heartbeat, headache, leg cramps, weight gain, sleeplessness, irritability, nervousness,  vomiting, diarrhoea, excess sweating, fever changes in menstrual periods, hives, skin rash, shortness of breath or any other unusual medical event.
