Cefoprox 100 mg contains Cefpodoxime, an orally administered third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that reveals potent antibacterial activity against various bacteria. It helps treat the following illnesses:

          — Lower respiratory tract infections caused by organisms sensitive to Cefpodoxime, including acute bronchitis, exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, and bacterial pneumonia, including patients at risk of underlying illnesses.

          — Urinary tract infections include cystitis and acute pyelonephritis (kidney inflammation caused by bacterial infection).

Cefpodoxime prevents the formation of the bacterial cell wall (protective covering), which is essential for the survival of the bacteria. By doing this, the antibiotic agent stops the infection-causing bacteria from growing further and prevents the infection from spreading without making the bacteria resistant to further treatment.  

This antibiotic drug may make you feel better within a few days, but it is important to continue taking it as prescribed even when you feel better. Sudden discontinuation may make the infection reappear and harder to treat.    

Be sure to use Cefoprox 100 mg as long as your doctor has prescribed it, even if you feel better today. The tablet can be taken with or without food, but gastrointestinal side effects (vomiting, diarrhoea, loss of appetite) may be prevented if consumed with food. Stick to the prescribed dose because it is given, keeping in mind the type of infection, its severity, age, and weight of the patient.  

If you forget to take Cefoprox 100 mg, do not panic; unless your doctor has advised a specific regime, you can take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Forget the missed dose if it is almost time to take the next dose. For maximum benefits, follow the prescribed dosing schedule as advised by our doctor.

Do not take Cefoprox to treat cold and flu symptoms as this drug is an antibiotic and doesn’t work to treat viral infections. Doctors only prescribe this medicine for coughs and colds when detecting any underlying secondary bacterial infection. Let your doctor know of complete medical history, including any previous episodes of skin disorder, heart problems, congenital disabilities, gastrointestinal problems, kidney malfunction, and liver impairment.

Cefoprox 100 mg is used with caution in patients with a severe kidney disorder. Dose adjustment may be needed. The antibiotic drug is usually safe for children with mild to moderate kidney disorders.  

Cefpodoxime should be used with caution in patients with liver disorders. Your doctor may adjust your dose after analysing your condition if you have a liver disorder.

Some of the minor and temporary side effects of Cefoprox 100 mg are nausea, diarrhoea, headache, rash, and vomiting. Usually, these side effects resolve once your body adapts to the medicine. However, if these side effects persist or become bothersome, call your doctor immediately. The antibiotic drug does not pose serious side effects and is well tolerated by most patients. In case the side effects do occur, call your doctor straight away.
