The medicine is Pirox gel 30 gm. Its active ingredient is Piroxicam, which belongs to a group of medicines known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. The gel formulation will help relieve pain and reduce swelling, affecting joints and muscles when gently rubbed into the skin all over the affected area. It is prescribed to treat rheumatism, strains, and mild osteoarthritis of joints.

    — Always use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor has told you. You should check with your doctor if you have any doubts about the usage of the medicine. Your doctor will tell you how your medicine should be used.

    — To apply the gel, pierce the tube by reversing the cap and screwing it down to break the seal on the tube. Now apply a little all over the affected areas.

    — Rub the formulation gently on the skin. Apply the gel three or four times a day. If the gel is not rubbed completely, mild, temporary staining of the skin and clothes may occur.

    — You should begin to feel better within a week for muscle strains and sprains. If the pain has not reduced, please tell your doctor.

    — Do not use Pirox gel for more than weeks without telling your doctor. Do not rub the medicine onto your broken or damaged skin, for example, scratches, wounds, infections, or dermatitis.

    — Do not apply the gel near your eyes, nose, mouth, genitals, or anal areas. If the gel comes in contact with these areas, rinse away with water.

    — Excessive exposure to sunlight may contribute to photosensitivity

    — Do not cover the area where piroxicam gel has been applied with dressings or bandages.

Do not use Pirox gel if allergic to aspirin or other anti-inflammatory agents used to treat painful muscles and joints.

Avoid using the gel if you are allergic to Piroxicam or any other ingredients of this topical medicine. Allergic reactions include mild symptoms such as itching or rash.   

Speak to your doctor before taking Pirox gel. Medicinal products are not always suitable for everyone. You should let your doctor know before you use Pirox gel if you suffer from the following conditions:

   — Kidney disease

   — Liver disease

Life-threatening skin rashes, including Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and toxic epidermal necrolysis, have to be reported using Piroxicam, appearing initially as spots or patches, often with blisters on the trunk.

Flu-like symptoms often accompany these life-threatening rashes. The rash progresses to blistering or peeling of the skin.

Pirox gel 30 gm can cause side effects like all medicines, although not everybody gets them. Inform your doctor immediately and stop the treatment if you experience the following symptoms after applying for the medicine. Although they are rare, these symptoms can be serious:

• Difficulty in breathing, sudden wheezing
• Life-threatening skin rashes
