Oncotrex contains 2.5 mg of methotrexate used in treating active rheumatoid arthritis and severe psoriatic arthritis in adult patients. It can be prescribed for severe resistant disabling psoriasis, which is not adequately responsive to other treatments such as phototherapy, retinoids, and PUVA. Methotrexate is also considered an immunosuppressant that affects the reproduction of the body's cells and reduces the activity of the immune system. These fast-growing cells cause the raised patches of skin in psoriasis. In treating rheumatoid arthritis, Oncotrex is believed to stop or reduce inflammation in the joints by altering the body's defence mechanism in the immune system. It should be best used under the supervision of a doctor. Your doctor can explain how Oncotrex tablets might help in your particular conditions.               

Take medicine exactly as prescribed. Check with your doctor if you have doubts about this medicine's usage. Do not take more tablets than the recommended dosage. It will not make you better any faster but may harm you. Use Oncotrex  2.5 mg tablet once a week to treat rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis. Using too much may be fatal. The dosage should be adjusted as per your response to treatment and side effects. In the elderly, no adjustment is required. The product is not recommended for use in children. Your doctor may recommend additional medicine to help ensure that Oncoterx does not accumulate in the kidneys. Improvements in arthritis and other conditions usually are first seen in 3 to 6 weeks. The full benefits of this medicine may not be seen until after twelve weeks of treatment.

Oncotrex should only be recommended by doctors whose knowledge and experience include immunosuppressant therapy because of the possibility of serious toxic reactions. It should only be used in patients with psoriasis or rheumatoid arthritis, with a severely disabling disease that is not adequately responsive to other forms of therapy. Deaths have been reported with Oncotrex in treating rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis. It can lower your immune system's ability to fight infection. If you experience symptoms of an infection while using this drug, you should stop it and contact your doctor. The medicine may cause cirrhosis while taking methotrexate, so avoid alcohol consumption. Regular monitoring is required to monitor blood counts and your liver while taking methotrexate tablets.

Common side effects of Oncotrex include fatigue, dizziness, headache,  anorexia, loose stools, feeling sick, swelling or soreness of the throat, lips, and mouth, skin rash with skin reddening, decreased white blood cell count,  hair loss, bacterial or fungal infection of hands and feet.    

Tell your doctor immediately if you experience the following symptoms after taking this medicine. Although they are rarely reported, these symptoms can be serious. All medicines can cause allergic reactions, although serious allergic reactions are rare. Any sudden wheeziness, itching, swelling of the eyelids, face, lips, and tongue, difficulty breathing, or coughing up blood should be informed to a doctor immediately.
