Lopid 300 mg is a lipid-regulating medicine that decreases triglycerides and total cholesterol and increases high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Each 300mg contains the active ingredient Gemfibrozil, which belongs to the class of medication known as fibrates. The lipid-regulating agent helps to reduce cholesterol and triglycerides or fatty acids in the blood. It is used along with diet and exercise to treat high levels of triglycerides in the bloodstream. Lowering cholesterol levels reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke.

For maximum effects, it should be taken in the dose and duration as advised by the doctor. You can take the capsule at any time of the day without food. A majority of people dealing with high cholesterol problems do not feel ill. But if you discontinue treatment, your condition could get worse. This may increase cholesterol levels and your risk of heart disease and stroke. To keep the condition under control, it is important to check your cholesterol levels regularly. The cholesterol-lowering drug is a part of the treatment regimen that involves diet, regular exercise,  smoking cessation, limited alcohol consumption, and weight management. In general, you have a normal diet but make sure you avoid foods high in fat.

Lopid capsules are generally prescribed in addition to lifestyle changes such as regular exercise and a low-fat diet to lower fat levels in the bloodstream.

It is important to have your cholesterol and triglyceride levels checked regularly. Before initiating treatment with Lopid capsules, please inform your doctor if you have an allergy, severe kidney disorders, severe liver disorders, or gallbladder conditions. Tell your doctor if you have ever had cataracts, gallstones, and heart disease. Let your doctor know if you have taken other cholesterol medicines with this Lopid capsule. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant and breastfeeding.

If you are above 70 years, then contact your doctor before taking this Gemfibrozil, then contact your doctor before taking medicine.

You must inform your doctor about your medical history and list all medications you may be using, especially these: Colchicine, statins such as fluvastatin or lovastatin, warfarin, colestipol, cholestyramine, and repaglinide. However, this is not complete information as mentioning all the details here is quite difficult about this drug. There may be other medications that may cause drug interaction. As a precautionary measure, it is not recommended not to consume alcohol, or junk foods, stick to freshly prepared home-cooked meals and take proper rest for a speedy recovery.

Gemfibrozil's common side effects are diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, weight loss, back pain, and rash. If any of these effects continue or become uncontrolled for a long time, then contact your doctor immediately.

Gemfibrozil may rarely cause serious side effects such as dizziness, vertigo, muscle pain, heartburn, abdominal pain, a feeling of weakness, rash, blurred vision, loss of appetite, black urine, sharp pain in the upper part of the stomach, little or no urination, joint pain, and impotence.
