Intalith CR 450mg contains the active substance lithium carbonate, which is a mood-stabilizing agent. It is used as a monotherapy for the acute short-term treatment of people seven years of age and older with manic and mixed episodes that appear with bipolar 1 disorder (also known as manic depression). It is unknown whether this medicine is safe and effective for children under seven years of age with bipolar 1 disorder.

Take your Intalith CR tablet the same way your doctor prescribes it. Intalith CR should be taken with food, as it reduces episodes of nausea more than on an empty stomach. Your doctor will perform certain blood tests before initiating and during treatment with Lithium carbonate and may change the dose if needed. Do not make any changes to your dosing regimen on your own. Do not discontinue treatment suddenly without talking to your doctor. 

Intalith CR is contraindicated in patients allergic to lithium or other ingredients present in this medicine. Before taking Lithium carbonate tablets, let your doctor know if you have kidney disease, thyroid problems, breathing issues, and heart disease. Also, tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to conceive. Intalith CR may harm your unborn baby. Do not drive, operate the machine, or indulge in dangerous activities that require you to be alert, especially when you begin taking this medicine when your dose is changed or until you know how Intalith CR affect you. The medicine may make you feel dizzy. Avoid becoming overheated or dehydrated during an intense exercise session and in hot, humid weather. Stick to your doctor's advice about the type and amount of liquids you should consume.

In some cases, excessive liquid consumption can be unsafe as not drinking enough. Avoid changing the amount of salt in your diet. Changing your salt intake can change the amount of Intalith CR in your bloodstream. Using lithium carbonate tablets with certain other drugs may affect each other, causing potential adverse events. Intalith CR may affect the other medicine's work, and other medicines may affect how Intalith CR functions. Especially inform your doctor if you take antipsychotic drugs, fentanyl, Tricyclic antidepressants, tramadol, buspirone, tryptophan, triptans, ST John's Wort, or MAOI (monoamine oxidase inhibitor).

The most common side effects of Intalith CR include the following:

1. For adults with manic or mixed episodes of bipolar I disorder - hand trembling, increased thirst, nausea, excessive urination, and general discomfort when you start treatment. 

2. For children 7 to 17 years of age with manic or mixed episodes of bipolar li disorder - hand trembling, rash, dizziness, difficulty walking, excessive thirst, thyroid problems, excessive urination, blurred vision, decreased appetite, blurred vision, nausea, and vomiting.
