Description of the drug:

Glimepiride is the active ingredient present in Glypride. It belongs to a category of drugs known as sulfonylureas. The medicine helps the pancreas to release insulin. The latter is a chemical that the body produces to transport sugar from the bloodstream into the cells. After the sugar enters the cells, they can use it as fuel for the body. In type 2 diabetes, the body does not produce adequate insulin or it is unable to use the insulin that it makes. The sugar therefore remains in the bloodstream. This leads to high blood sugar levels.

Indications and Usage:

The medicine is used to control blood sugar in people afflicted with type 2 diabetes. It is taken along with proper diet and exercise. It can be administered along with other anti diabetic medicines. The medicine helps to control blood sugar, but it will not cure diabetes. Remember to continue taking the medicine even if you feel fine. The medicine should not be used to treat patients who have type 1 diabetes, a condition in which the body does not produce enough insulin. The medicine will only help reduce blood sugar if the body produces insulin naturally.
