Amiodar 100 mg is a prescription medicine used to treat people diagnosed with heart conditions such as ventricular arrhythmias (Abnormal heartbeats that make your heart twitch instead of the pump) when other treatments do not work or you are unable to tolerate them. It contains Amiodarone Hydrochloride, a member of a class of antiarrhythmic drugs available for oral administration. It works by blocking the abnormal electric signals in the heart. This rapidly restores your heart to a steady and regular rhythm.

Treatment should be initiated under the supervision of a doctor. When you are discharged from the hospital, take Amiodarone exactly as your doctor tells you to. Your doctor will tell you how many tablets to take and when. Your doctor may change your dose of this medicine as required as your heart rhythm is controlled or if you develop certain side effects. Your doctor will monitor you carefully when your dose is being changed. You can take your dose of Amiodarone either with or without food. Consult your doctor to receive the right dosing regimen for your condition.  

Do not take Amiodar 100 mg if you:

  — Have a serious heart condition such as cardiogenic shock

  — Have certain types of heart diseases called heart blockage, with or without a slow heart rate

  — Have a slow heart rate with dizziness or other ingredients in the formulation.

  — Are allergic to Amiodarone, iodine, and any of the other ingredients in the formulation

Before taking Amiodarone, tell your doctor if any of the following applies to you have:

  — Thyroid problems

  — Liver problems

  — Slow heart rate or blood pressure

  — Implanted pacemaker

  — Plan to have surgery with general anaesthesia

Avoid drinking grapefruit juice during treatment with Amiodarone. Drinking grapefruit juice may increase the amount of Amiodarone in your bloodstream, which may lead to side effects. Amiodarone may make your skin sensitive to sunlight. You may get severe sunburn. Use sunscreen and protective clothing to help cover your skin in sunlight. Consult your doctor if you get sunburn.    

The most common side effects of Amiodar 100 mg include liver problems, heartbeat problems, lung problems, and heart problems. Amiodarone hydrochloride can cause serious side effects, including nerve, skin, and thyroid problems. You should call your doctor if you develop symptoms of thyroid problems such as hair thinning,  restlessness, nervousness, tremor, restlessness, sweating, weight loss, weight gain, changes in your menstrual periods, decreased concentration, feeling depressed, irritability, and swelling of your neck.   

Amiodarone hydrochloride may affect fertility in males and females. It is not known if the effects of the medicine are reversible. Speak to your doctor if you have concerns about fertility.
