Cefpodoxime Proxetil is a broad spectrum antibiotics belonging to the class of cephalosporins. Cephalosporins are one of the major classes and sub group of beta lactam antibiotics derived from fungus Acremonium or cephalosporium. Cefpodoxime Proxetil belongs to the third generation cephalosporins and has a broad antimicrobial spectrum against gram positive and gram negative microorganisms. How it works?

Cefpodoxime Proxetil is a beta lactam antibiotic and acts on specific penicillin binding protein and stops the formation of bacterial cell wall. It interferes with the later stages of bacterial cell wall, and disrupts the cross linking of the peptidoglycan structure. It has active role in the activation of bacterial cell autolysin process contributing bacterial cell lysis. 

When should you avoid it?

You should not take Cefpodoxime Proxetil if you:

  • Are allergic to Cefpodoxime Proxetil
  • Breastfeeding a child
  • Are pregnant or planning pregnancy
  • Are suffering from kidney problems
  • Have colitis

How much to take?

You should consume Cefpodoxime Proxetil as prescribed by your doctor. Do not consume it in smaller or higher quantities for a longer period of time than prescribed. It is up to doctor as he knows your complete health status. So, doctor will prescribe the best therapeutic dose depending upon your condition. One tablet after every 12 hours for 5 to 10 days

400 mg(acute community acquired pneumonia )

One tablet  after every 12 hours for 14 days

How to take it?

Tablets are meant to be taken with full glass of water. Swallow the oral tablets don’t crush or chew it. Take the medicine same time daily as it reduces the chances of missing a dose. Complete the full course of the treatment.

When to take?
