Aprecap 125/80 mg contains Aprepitant, which is put under the anti-cancer category. It is available in capsule form and is prescribed for both men and women. This drug is often prescribed to prevent nausea and vomiting caused by cancer drug treatment (chemotherapy). An antiemetic chemical compound belongs to a class of drugs called substance P antagonists (SPA).

Aprepitant is taken with other medicines to treat nausea and vomiting that patients experience while undergoing chemotherapy. This ingredient can block your body's natural substance that causes vomiting, but it will not treat vomiting if you are already suffering from it. It’s better to consult your doctor for further instructions if you already have nausea or vomiting.

Those taking this medicine to prevent nausea and vomiting after surgery will probably take one dose of 40 milligrams before chemotherapy. The exact dosage is based on the medical condition of the patient as well as the response to treatment.

Usually, Aprepitant is taken once every day, with or without food, during the initial days of cancer chemotherapy. Doctors recommend this antiemetic drug an hour before the first dose of chemotherapy. After that, patients can take it in the morning for the next few days. One must follow the directions on how much and when to take this medicine. More or less dosage of Aprepitant may harm your body, so take it as prescribed by the expert. The drug comes as a capsule that you can take orally. Its capsules come in two strengths that are prescribed to take at different times. Only your doctor can direct how much strength is needed to prevent nausea and vomiting. It’s usually taken during the first three days of chemotherapy administration. You are not supposed to miss a dose of your antiemetic medicine and take it according to the prescribed schedule. Contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately to confirm your medical condition and get a new dosing schedule if you miss a dose.

It’s important that you are allergic or suffering from other allergies before using Aprepitant. This substance may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems, so be careful about that. Use this antiemetic medicine with extreme caution in children as safety and effectiveness in children have not been assured yet. Talk to your pharmacist and discuss your medical history with your doctor. During pregnancy, this medication should be taken only when firmly prescribed. It is not known if this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding. Discuss the risks and benefits of taking Aprepitant with your doctor.

Drug interactions may alter how your medications are supposed to work or increase your risk for serious side effects. Some medications can affect the removal of Aprepitant from your body to change the effects of Aprepitant. Some medications that can cause drug interactions include Diltiazem, clarithromycin, erythromycin, itraconazole, ketoconazole, rifampin, rifabutin, alprazolam, midazolam, triazolam, Nefazodone, ritonavir, nelfinavir, carbamazepine, phenytoin.
