Norflox 400 mg is an antibiotic medicine used in adults to treat a wide range of bacterial infections.  It contains the active ingredient Norfloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that kills the bacteria that cause infection. The medicine also helps restore the balance of good bacteria in the intestine that may get disturbed after antibiotic use or intestinal infections. Norfloxacin might not be a safe option for children under 18 years of age; therefore, it is best to first consult a doctor before taking this antibiotic medication. Children have a higher chance of getting joint problems while taking Norflox tablets. Some people may experience the same symptoms, but the cause could be a virus rather than a bacterium.

Take Norflox 400 mg on an empty stomach. Take it regularly to get the most benefit. Your doctor will decide the best dose and duration of the treatment. Take medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It is usually taken every 12 hours for patients with normal kidney function. The antibiotic medication is available in a tablet you need to take with a water glass. Make sure you drink plenty of water during the entire treatment. Take the tablet at least an hour or two hours after a meal. Do not miss doses or stop taking the drug even if you feel better after taking the first dose of the medicine. Be sure to follow your doctor’s instructions. Complete the full course of treatment. Do not stop the treatment unless you have tendon effects, or you have a serious allergic reaction, or your doctor tells you to stop. This makes sure the bacteria are eliminated and lower the chance that the bacteria will become resistant to Norflox.  

Norflox 400 mg can make you feel dizzy, so it is best not to drive or indulge in activities that require mental alertness until you know how the antibiotic drug affects you. Limit sun exposure, as the medicine may make your skin sensitive to the sun. You could get a sunburn, skin peeling or swelling of the skin. If you develop any of these side effects, call your doctor straight away. Make sure you use sunscreen and take other measures to protect your skin from sunlight. Immediately discontinue treatment and call your doctor if you had tendinitis or tendon rupture using fluoroquinolone antibiotics. Tell your doctor if you have tendon problems, nerve issues, myasthenia gravis, low blood potassium, seizures, slow heartbeat, rheumatoid arthritis, or kidney disease.   

Tell your doctor about all the medications you take, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Norflox 400 mg and others can interact with each other and reduce the effects of either medicine. Especially, tell your doctor if you take NSAID, a blood thinner, cyclosporine, clozapine, ropinirole, probenecid, a tricyclic antidepressant, erythromycin, etc.

The most common side effects of Norflox 400 mg include heartburn, headache, stomach, nausea, dizziness, changes in certain liver function tests, and diarrhea.
