Permite cream 5% is a topical scabicidal agent for treating scabies, a disease caused by infection of sarcoptes scabiei. The disease is transmitted mostly by contact with people, such as sleeping together in a crowded bedroom. Permite cream is the drug of choice for scabies treatment, applied thoroughly throughout the body, starting from behind the ears and neck down to the toe. The formulation should only be removed 10 to 12 hours later with soap and water. The standard treatment is effective; however, problems still arise, such as the inconvenience of the side effects, namely irritation, burning sensation, contact dermatitis and allergic reactions.

Your doctor will explain how to use Permite cream, how much you need, and how long you need to continue the treatment. Carefully read the instructions given on your prescription to make sure you use the topical formulation correctly. Your skin should be clean and dry before applying the cream. You can wash the cream 8 to 14 hours after you have used this antifungal medicine. Most people only need to use it once to treat their condition, but if a second application is needed, you should wait for at least a week as per doctor’s advice. Sometimes, itching may last for a few weeks after treating scabies. This is probably an allergic reaction to dead mites and not a sign that the treatment has not worked. In case of accidental ingestion, a general supportive measure should be employed.

For adults and children, thoroughly massage the cream into the skin from the head to the soles of the feet. Scabies rarely affects adults' scalp, although the hairline, temple, neck, and forehead may be infested in infants and geriatric patients. Use it as advised by our doctor. A single application is generally curative.

If hypersensitivity to Permite cream occurs, discontinue use. Before using it, let your doctor know if you have any skin conditions or allergies to certain medicines or other substances. Though this antifungal drug is thought to be safe, you should ask your doctor for advice if the medicine is safe to use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Do not use the topical formulation on infants younger than two months of age. Tell your doctor right away if you have an allergy to permethrin or any inactive ingredients of this topical antifungal drug. Be sure to talk about the allergies and what signs you developed. This includes talking about itching, rash, wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath, swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat.

In clinical trials, generally mild and transient burning and stinging followed application with topical permethrin. If you develop any other side effects associated with the use of Permite cream, immediately inform your doctor.
