Glycomet 250 mg is a prescription antidiabetic medication containing Metformin, a step active ingredient. Metformin helps to lower blood sugar and thus prevent serious complications associated with the metabolic disorder. If you are suffering from diabetes mellitus, your pancreas makes enough insulin, a hormone that makes your body take in glucose from the blood or your body cannot make enough insulin. Both these conditions lead to a high level of glucose in your blood. Being an antidiabetic agent, Glycomet 250 tablets lower blood glucose level to as normal levels as possible. The medicine effectively treats people with Type 2 diabetes when diet and exercise alone are not enough to gain control raise blood sugar. It is especially effective in overweight patients.

Take Glycomet 250 mg tablet before or after a meal. This helps you avoid gastrointestinal effects during the treatment. Do not break or crush the tablet. Swallow it with a glass of water. If you have been asked to take one dose a day, take it in the morning after breakfast. If you take two divided doses a day, take one tablet in the morning and one evening after dinner. Your doctor may ask to take it three divided doses a day, in the morning, at noon, and in the evening. If you think the effect of your metformin formulation is too a week or too weak, please speak to your doctor straight away. If you take more than Glycomet tablets than you should, you may experience lactic acidosis. Symptoms include abdominal pain, vomiting, muscle cramps, a general feeling of not being well, trouble breathing, and tiredness.

Do not take it if you are allergic to Metformin or any of the inactive ingredients of this medicine. Avoid taking medicine if you have liver problems, uncontrolled diabetes, dehydration, a severe infection, acute heart failure, or drink a lot of alcohol. Talk to your doctor straight away if any of these applies to you. Your doctor may ask you to discontinue treatment for a short time if you develop a condition that may be associated with dehydration. During pregnancy, insulin is required to treat diabetes. Inform your doctor straight away if you are or planning to become pregnant so that your treatment can be changed. Avoid excessive alcohol intake while taking this antidiabetic agent since this may increase the risk of lactic acidosis. This antidiabetic agent is not recommended if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed your baby. You must inform your doctor if you are taking or have taken any other medicines.

Common side effects include digestive problems such as loss of appetite, nausea, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, and sickness. These side effects usually occur at the beginning of the antidiabetic treatment. If any unwanted side effect of the medicine continues to bother you, discontinue treatment, and talk to your doctor straight away.
