Generic Name Roxithromycin
Manufacturer Ranbaxy, India

Raxitid 150 mg contains Roxithromycin, which belongs to a macrolide class of antibiotics. The active ingredient of the medicine Roxithromycin prevents bacteria from growing by interfering with their protein synthesis. It effectively treats infections caused by bacteria like respiratory tract infections, tonsillitis, impetigo, sinusitis, soft tissue infections, genitor-urinary tract infections, and skin infections. The antibiotic works by killing or stopping the bacterial growth that is responsible for causing infection. Your doctor may prescribe it for other purposes. Always follow your doctor’s advice when it comes to using Raxitid.

Check your prescription to know the correct dosage for your bacterial infection.  In general, the dose depends on your condition and how you react to the medicine.  The recommended dose for children more than 40kg is one 150 mg tablet two times daily. The dosage of Roxithromycin given to children depends on the child’s weight. Carefully follow your doctor’s instructions when it comes to taking medicine. The medicine is available in the form of a tablet. Swallow it with a glass of water. It should be best taken at least fifteen minutes before bed or an empty stomach.  The antibiotic drug works best when taken on an empty stomach.

Note: Taking this antibiotic with food may reduce its absorption.

Do not take Raxitid 150 mg if you are allergic to the active ingredient Roxithromycin, any other macrolide antibiotics or any other ingredients of the medicine. Some of the symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, hives on the skin, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face/lips/tongue. Avoid taking this antibiotic medication if you have severe liver problems. Also, do not take the medication if you are taking certain medications for migraine headaches. Before you start to take it, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any other medicines. You should inform your doctor if you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant. Your doctor will discuss the risks and benefits of following this antibiotic therapy during pregnancy. Also, inform your doctor if you breastfeed. The antibiotic drug passes into the breast milk. Your doctor will decide whether you need to discontinue breastfeeding or the medication. Tell your doctor if you have a history of kidney problems and liver problems. It is important to inform your doctor about all the medications you have been using, including those you get without a prescription (vitamins and herbal supplements). Some medicines may affect the way Roxithromycin works or may affect the mode of action of other medications.  These include medicines to treat asthma, migraine headaches, irregular heart rhythm, prevent blood clots, sleep disorders, gastrointestinal problems, and antipsychotic drugs. Your doctor will advise you whether you need to take any of these medications. If you are not sure whether you need to take any of these medicines, speak to your doctor.

Tell your doctor if you notice a loss of appetite, tiredness, altered taste, oral thrush, nausea, vomiting, vaginal thrush, red or itchy skin, and oral thrush.
