Qutipin 50 is a medication that works in the brain to treat Schizophrenia. It contains an antipsychotic agent called Quetiapine which rebalances dopamine and serotonin to improve mood, thinking, and behaviour. Symptoms of Schizophrenia include:

• Delusions: Beliefs that are not true
• Hallucinations: Imagined voices or images that seem real
• Difficulty speaking
• Lack of motivation
• Trouble thinking or trouble organizing your thoughts and making sense.  

Your doctor may also prescribe Qutipin 50 for the following conditions:

• Acute treatment of manic episodes of bipolar disorder (a mental disorder that causes unusual shifts in mood, energy, concentration, activity levels, and the ability to carry out day-to-day tasks.
• Treatment of depressive episodes of bipolar condition
• Long term treatment of the bipolar disorder
• Adjunctive treatment of the major depressive disorder

Qutipin 50 mg may be taken before or after consuming food. Typically, the treatment should begin at a low dose, and the dose is increased slowly over several weeks. Only your doctor can determine the correct dose for you. It is important to tell your doctor how you feel during the initial few weeks of starting the treatment. It will probably take several weeks to see visible improvement in the symptoms to decide if Qutipin is the right medication for you. Antipsychotic drugs such as Quetiapine is generally needed lifelong for individuals with Schizophrenia. The treatment is usually prescribed based on your symptoms and illness.

Schizophrenia requires long term treatment. Do not stop taking medicine, even if you feel well. Follow your doctor’s advice when taking Quetiapine 50 mg tablets. A missing dose may increase your risk for a relapse in your symptoms. Do not stop taking medicine or change the dose without your doctor’s approval. For best results, it should be used as advised by your doctor. If you are planning or becoming pregnant, notify your doctor to manage your medications best. Before taking Qutipin 50, it is important to discuss the risks and benefits of treatment with your doctor. Caution is advised for breastfeeding women as Quetiapine does pass into breast milk. Quetiapine may block the action of medicines used to treat Parkinson’s disease, such as Levodopa/carbidopa, pramipexole, and others.

Other medications that may increase the risk of heart problems when used with Qutipin 50 mg:

• Antipsychotic drugs including chlorpromazine, thioridazine, ziprasidone, iloperidone
• Heart rhythm medications such as quinidine, sotalol, amiodarone, dronedarone, procainamide

Common side effects of Qutipin 50 mg include increased heart rate, drowsiness, fatigue, weight gain, dry mouth, increased appetite, constipation, cholesterol abnormalities, increased glucose, agitation, headache, dizziness, increased blood pressure, and extrapyramidal symptoms.

Rare side effects of Quetiapine include an increase in the blood levels of a hormone called prolactin. Symptoms of increased prolactin levels include females having irregular periods or not having a menstrual cycle. The long-term increased prolactin levels include osteoporosis or increased risk of bone fractures.
