Atarax 10 mg is indicated for the symptomatic relief of anxiety and tension associated with psychoneurosis and as an adjunct in organic disease states in which anxiety is manifested.

It is also useful in managing pruritus due to allergic conditions such as chronic urticaria, atopic and contact dermatitis, and histamine-mediated pruritus. Atarax 10 mg contains Hydroxyzine, which belongs to a class of medication known as antihistamines.  

Hydroxyzine tablets should also be used as a sedative when used as a premedication and following general anaesthesia.   

In the treatment of anxiety:

Atarax can effectively manage feelings of restlessness, tiredness, feeling irritable and trouble concentrating. It will help you perform daily activities more easily, thus making you more productive. 

In the treatment of skin conditions with itching and inflammation:

Atarax reduces the activity of certain chemicals in the body that cause inflammation of the skin. When used correctly, it reduces the pain, rash, redness or itchiness caused by your skin’s reaction to an irritant. It thus builds up confidence in you as your appearance changes.

Atarax 10 mg tablet can be taken with or without food. Take it exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The dose and how often you take it depends on what condition you are taking it for. Avoid taking more or less than the prescribed amount. On e must take Hydroxyzine tablet for as long as it is prescribed. If you have missed the doses, take them as soon as you remember. However, you should never take two doses. Keep taking medicine, even if you feel well. Stopping it can cause serious problems.

Atarax is contraindicated in patients with porphyria, early pregnancy, and asthmatics who have previously experienced a serious antihistamine-induced adverse bronchopulmonary effect.

Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you have heart problems, liver problems, kidney disease, or high blood pressure. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Also, your doctor should be aware of all the medicines you are taking, as many of these medications are less effective or changes the way it works. In general, it is advised by your doctor to avoid alcohol while on treatment. Atarax is not recommended or used if you are allergic to Hydroxyzine or other medicine ingredients.  

Caution is required in patients with the following conditions:

    — Hyperthyroidism

    — Stenosing peptic ulcer

    — Seizure disorders

    — Myasthenia gravis

    — Bladder outflow obstruction

    — Hypertension

    — Cardiovascular disease

    — Increased intraocular pressure

    — Patients with breathing problems

    — Dementia

    — Decreased gastrointestinal motility

Since drowsiness may occur with Hydroxyzine, patients should avoid driving a car or operating a machine that requires your complete attention.

The most commonly reported side effects of Atarax 10 mg include nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, and constipation. If these bother you or appear serious, inform your doctor. There may be ways of reducing or preventing them. You should avoid driving or indulging in activities that require complete attention.
