Angizem CD 120 mg is indicated for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure). It may be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive drugs. Angizem is also effective in managing chronic stable angina due to coronary artery spasms.  

The dosage needs to be adjusted as per the individual’s needs. Talk to your doctor about the correct dosage of Angizem CD. The maximum hypertensive effect is usually observed after two weeks of chronic therapy; therefore, dosage adjustment should be scheduled accordingly.  

Dosages for the treatment of angina should be adjusted to each patient’s needs, starting with 120 mg and gradually increasing once daily. Individuals may respond to a higher dose of up to 360 mg once daily. When necessary, dose adjustments may be carried out over a one-to-two-week period.

A lower dosage may be required in elderly patients.

There are few available dosage requirements for hepatic or renal impairment patients with impaired renal or hepatic function. The medicine should be used with caution in hepatic or renal insufficiency patients. If Angizem CD should be used in these patients, the dosage should be carefully adjusted depending on the patient’s responses and tolerability.

Data to support long term use or with higher doses is limited. A higher dose may offer effectiveness but is associated with a greater risk of side effects. Therefore, treatment with doses exceeding 360 mg a day is not recommended.

Angizem CD 120 is contraindicated in the following conditions:

• in patients with sick sinus syndrome except in the presence of a functioning ventricular pacemaker.   
• Patients with second or third-degree heart blockage except in the presence of a functioning ventricular pacemaker.
• Patients who have demonstrated hypersensitivity to Diltiazem.  
• Patients with hypotension  
• Patients with acute myocardial infarction and pulmonary congestion   

  Concomitant use with other cardiovascular agents    

• Angizem may be safely co-administered with short and long-acting nitrates.
• Diltiazem has an addictive hypertensive effect when used along with other antihypertensive agents. Therefore, the dosage of Diliazem or the concomitant antihypertensives may need to be adjusted when adding one to the other.

The safety and effectiveness of Angizem in children have not been established. Therefore, the calcium channel blocker drug is not recommended for children.  

Calcium channel blockers, including Diltiazem, may be associated with mood changes, including depression. Furthermore, this drug should be used with caution in patients who have diabetes. Carefully monitoring is required in patients with diabetes mellitus due to a possible increase in blood glucose. The use of Angizem may induce bronchospasm, including worsening of asthma, especially in patients with pre-existing bronchial hyper-reactivity.

Patients taking Angizem CD 120 may get the following side effects:

• Cardiovascular: Angina, arrhythmia, heart blockage, hypotension, congestive heart failure, palpitations, tachycardia
• Nervous System: Depression, abnormal dreams, hallucinations, personality change, tinnitus, tremor, nervousness, insomnia, amnesia, and paraesthesia
• Dermatological: Urticaria, photosensitivity, pruritus
• Gastrointestinal: Diarrhea, dyspepsia, constipation, anorexia, dry mouth, dysgeusia, thirst, weight increase, vomiting, and alkaline phosphatase  
• Other: Dyspnea, hyperglycaemia, eye irritation, nasal congestion, muscle cramps, impotence, hyperuricaemia, sexual difficulties etc.
