Restectlin 250 mg contains the active ingredient, Tetracycline, which belongs to the class of medications called antibiotics. It is useful in treating many different  infections caused by bacteria:

    —   Respiratory infections such as bronchitis, pneumonia, or cough

    —   Urinary tract infections

    —   Sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhoea, chlamydia or syphilis

    —   Sine infections such as acne

    —   Eye infections such as conjunctivitis

It stops the growth of bacteria responsible for causing the infection and clears it.

For adults, the usual dosage is 250 mg four times a day. Higher doses, such as 500 mg four times a day, may be needed for severe infections or infectious symptoms that do not improve with the smaller doses.   

Administration of adequate fluids with a Resteclin capsule is recommended to wash down the drug and reduce the risk of stomach irritation and ulceration. Absorption of this antibiotic is impaired by antacids containing calcium and magnesium and formulations containing zinc, iron, or sodium bicarbonate. Certain foods and some dairy products also interfere with absorption. In case of overdosage, discontinue the medicine, or treat it symptomatically, your doctor may institute supportive measures. In patients with kidney problems, the total dosage was decreased by reducing recommended individual doses and increasing time intervals between doses. Take medicine as long as prescribed by the doctor and avoid missing doses. This will make sure all bacteria are removed from the body, and they do not become resistant.

Patients should only include Tetracycline antibiotics to treat bacterial infections. They do not treat viral infections such as the common cold. It is common to feel better early in treatment; the medicine should be taken exactly as your doctor prescribes. Missing doses or not completing the full course of treatment may decrease the effectiveness of the immediate treatment and increase the risk that the bacteria will develop resistance and will not e treatable by Resteclin or other antibacterial medicines.

Resteclin is contraindicated in patients who show hypersensitivity to tetracyclines drugs. Using this antibiotic during tooth development (last half of pregnancy, infancy and childhood to the age of eight) may cause permanent discolouration of the teeth. This adverse effect is more common during long-term use of the medicines, but it has been noticed.   

As with other antibiotics, using Resteclin may result in the overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi. In case of superinfection, the antibiotic drug should be stopped, and appropriate treatment should be introduced.  

Photosensitivity manifested by an exaggerated sunburn reaction has been observed in some individuals taking tetracycline antibiotics. Therefore, patients are advised to avoid direct sun exposure. Discontinue treatment for the symptoms of skin erythema. (superficial reddening of the skin, usually in patches, due to injury or irritation causing widening of the blood capillaries).

Most side effects of Resteclin do not require any medical help and resolve as your body adjusts to the medicine. Talk to your doctor if they persist or if you are concerned about them. Severe side effects of tetracycline antibiotics are diarrhoea, nausea, discolouration of teeth, nausea, vomiting, tongue discolouration,  low blood platelets,  itching, decreased appetite, decreased white blood cell counts, and mouth inflammation.
