Tiniba is a prescription medicine used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It contains the active substance Tinidazole, which is an anti-effective agent. Tinidazole treats the following bacterial infections:

  • infections of the skin, lung, chest, blood, womb lining and genitals.
  • infection associated with stomach ulcers in conjunction with other medications.
  • gum infections
  • protozoal such as amoebiasis and giardiasis (stomach infections) and trichomoniasis (a genital infection)

Your doctor may also prescribe this antibacterial drug before certain surgical operations to prevent bacterial infections from developing. You should discuss with your doctor if you are unsure about the usage of the medicine.

Always take Tiniba 300 mg exactly as your doctor has instructed you. Check with your doctor if you are unsure about the correct dosage regimen. Take the tablet with water during or after a meal. Tinidazole is not recommended for treating bacterial infections in children under 12 years of age as its safety and efficacy have not been established in such age groups.

Tiniba can be given to children suffering from a protozoal infection, and the medicine has not shown to cause any side effects than it does in adults. The treatment's dose and length usually depend on the infection being treated. Patients who are on dialysis may be given a different dose. The usual dose is one tablet twice a day for treating most bacterial infections. The usual duration of treatment is 5 to 6 days.

Do not take Tiniba 500 mg if you are allergic to Tinidazole or similar drugs. An allergic reaction could cause severe itching, a skin rash, or wheezing. Avoid taking this antibacterial agent if you have a blood disorder, epilepsy (central nervous disorder), in the first 13 weeks of pregnancy, or if you are trying to become pregnant. Speak to your doctor straight away if abnormal neurological signs develop while receiving Tinidazole. The symptoms include vertigo, dizziness, and difficulty in controlling movements. Your doctor may ask you to stop the treatment. Let your doctor know if you take other medicines, including vitamins and herbal supplements. You must inform your doctors if you have currently taken blood thinners such as warfarin used to prevent blood clots. Patients are advised to avoid alcohol consumption during the treatment for three days after treatment discontinuation. Combining alcohol and Tinidazole may cause stomach cramps, flushing, palpitations, and vomiting. You should not take this medicine if you are breastfeeding, as small amounts can pass into your milk. If you are asked to stop breastfeeding during treatment, you should not restart until at least three days after stopping this antibacterial therapy.

Possible side effects of Tinidazole 500 mg are headache, nausea, itching, skin rash, or vertigo. These may usually go away as your body adjusts to the medicine. Inform your doctor straight away if any of them continue to bother you. Although side effects such as sudden wheeziness, breathlessness, fits, and swelling of lips/eyelids/tongue/ lips are rare, please speak to your doctor if you experience any of these signs.
