Dicorate ER 250 mg is a prescription medicine useful in treating manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder. Your doctor may also prescribe it alone or with other medications to treat complex partial seizures in adults and children ten years of age and older. Dicorate extended-release tablet effectively treats simple and complex seizure, with or without other seizure types. The medicine helps to prevent migraine headaches.

Take Dicorate ER exactly as your doctor tells you. Your doctor will tell you how much of this medicine you need to take and when to take it. Your doctor may change your dosing regimen but avoid making any dose adjustments by yourself. Do not discontinue treatment without your doctor’s permission. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass full of water. Do not chew or crush the extended-release tablets. Speak to your doctor if you cannot swallow the tablet. If you take too much Dicorate extended-release tablet, call your doctor straight away.

If you take Dicorate ER tablets during pregnancy, your baby is at risk for serious congenital disabilities.

The deformities may occur even in children born to women who are not taking any medicines and do

not have other risk factors. Taking folic acid supplements during early pregnancy can lower the chance of having a baby with a birth defect. Inform your doctor straight away if you have symptoms such as severe stomach pain that you may feel in your back, nausea, or vomiting that does not resolves. Do not Dicorate extended-release tablet if you have liver problems or are allergic to Divalproex sodium, sodium valproate, valproic acid, or any other ingredients resent in the medicine. You should also avoid taking this anticonvulsant drug if you have a genetic problem called a urea cycle disorder. Before you take this drug, tell your doctor if you drink alcohol, have depression, or have any other medical conditions. Your doctor should also be aware of your pregnancy status. The anticonvulsant drug may make you drowsy. Do not consume alcohol or other medicines that make you feel sleepy or drowsy until you discuss with your doctor. Do not drive or indulge in activities until you know how the anticonvulsant drug affects you. Divalproex sodium can slow down your motor skills.  

Call your doctor straight away if you get side effects such as loss of appetite, nausea or vomiting, dark urine, swelling of your face, pain in the stomach, and yellowing of your skin. In some cases, liver damage may continue despite stopping the medication. The medicine can cause bleeding problems, high ammonia levels in your blood, low body temperature, allergic reactions, drowsiness, or sleepiness in the elderly. The medicine's most common side effects include headache, nausea, hair loss, loss of appetite, hair loss, vomiting, dizziness, increased appetite, blurry vision, diarrhea, and stomach pain. These are not all the side effects of the medicine. If you concerned about the side effects of this anti-seizure medicine, speak to your doctor.
