Zeptol CR 400 mg is an anti-convulsant medication used to prevent and control seizures. It contains the active ingredient Carbamazepine, an anti-epileptic drug used to treat certain types of seizures, trigeminal neuralgia (sharp recurring pain in the face), and to prevent manic depression, also known as bipolar disorder. Carbamazepine can modify some pain and controlling mood disorders.

Do not stop taking Zeptol CR 400 mg without your doctor’s permission. Stopping the medication suddenly can cause serious health complications. Sudden discontinuation in a patient who has epilepsy may cause seizures that will not stop. The condition is referred to as status epilepticus. Take medicine exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Your doctor will suggest how much medicine to take and how long you need to control seizures. Your doctor may change your dose according to your condition. Do not make dose adjustments without talking to your doctor. Take medicine with food. If you accidentally take too much of this medicine, speak to your doctor right away. Do not drink alcohol or take other medications that make you sleepy or dizzy while taking medicine until you talk to your doctor. Carbamazepine used along with alcohol or drugs that cause dizziness may make your dizziness worse.   

Do not use Zeptol CR 400 mg if you are hypersensitive to Carbamazepine or other similar medicines such as oxcarbazepine and tricyclic antidepressants or any other medicine ingredients. Avoid taking the medication if you suffer from bone marrow suppression or a serious blood disorder. Speak to your doctor if you are taking medicines belonging to a certain group of antidepressants called monoamine oxidase inhibitors. If you think you have any of these medical conditions, tell your doctor before taking Zeptol tablets. Before treatment with this anti-convulsant drug, tell the doctor if you have blood disorders, have had a heart problem, liver disorder, kidney disease, or have increased pressure in the eye. Your doctor is aware of your pregnancy or if you are taking hormonal contraceptives. Carbamazepine may reduce the effectiveness of these medicines. Therefore, you should discuss with your doctor a non-hormonal method of contraception while receiving this antiseizure medicine. This is useful in preventing an unwanted pregnancy. The anti-convulsant drug may make you feel dizzy or may cause blurred vision, or you may have a lack of muscular coordination. Drinking alcohol may affect you. Eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice may increase your risk of developing side effects.  

Zeptol prolonged-release tablet does not usually cause problems, but like all pharmaceutical agents, they can sometimes cause side effects. Some side effects can be serious. Discontinue treatment and tell your doctor straight away if you notice mouth ulcers, sore throat, high temperature, yellowing of your skin, pain in the joints, joint pain, fever, skin rash, swollen ankles, bronchospasm, pain in the stomach.
