Olmecip 20 contains Olmesartan, which belongs to a group of drugs known as angiotensin II receptor antagonists. The class of drugs cause relaxation of blood vessels. It treats high blood pressure in adults and children and adolescents aged 6 to less than 18. High blood pressure can damage the blood vessels of the heart, brain, eyes, or kidney. In severe cases, the condition may lead to a heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, blindness, and heart failure. Usually, patients dealing with hypertension has no symptoms. Therefore, it is important to check your blood pressure checked to prevent damage from occurring. High blood pressure can be controlled with Olmesartan tablets. Your doctor will recommend Olmecip with certain lifestyle changes (regular exercise, weight management, reduction in alcohol intake to help your blood pressure and reducing the amount of salt in your diet).

The dosage of Olmecip 20 must be individualized. The usual recommended starting dose of Olmesartan 20 mg once daily when used alone in patients who are not volume contracted. For those who need a further reduction in blood pressure after two weeks of therapy, the dose of Olmesartan may be increased by the doctor. Twice daily dosing offers no advantage to the patient. No initial dose adjustment is recommended for elderly patients with moderate to marked renal impairment. The medicine may be administered before or after consuming food. If blood pressure is not controlled by Olmesartan alone, a diuretic may be added to the regimen. Olmecip 20 may be administered before or after consuming food. If blood pressure is not controlled by Olmecip alone, a diuretic may be introduced to the treatment regimen.

You must tell your doctor if you think you are pregnant or planning to conceive. Your doctor will normally advise you to discontinue treatment before you plan to have a baby or as soon as you know you are pregnant and will prescribe an alternative for this medication.

This heart and blood pressure medicine is not recommended in early pregnancy and must not be used when more than three months, as it may cause serious harm to the baby if used after the third month of pregnancy. Let your doctor know if you breastfeed or about to start breastfeeding. This medicine is not recommended for breastfeeding mothers, and your doctor will choose another treatment for you if you wish to breastfeed your newborn or a premature baby. Ask your doctor for advice before taking the heart and blood pressure medicine. You may feel dizzy or sleepy while being treated with an antihypertensive agent.

Treatment with Olmecip 20 is well tolerated with minimal side effects. Adverse events are generally mild and resolve within a few days once the body gets used to the antihypertensive drug. The common side effects include diarrhoea, headache, back pain, hematuria, bronchitis, influenzas like symptoms, rhinitis, hypertriglyceridemia, sinusitis and sometimes cough. Other potentially important adverse effects that have been reported in the clinical trials include peripheral edema, vertigo, tachycardia, nausea, gastroenteritis, dyspepsia, hyperlipemia, hypercholesterolemia, arthritis, arthralgia, myalgia, chest pain, and rash.
