Cardivas CR 40 mg is a prescription medicine containing Carvedilol (active ingredient) categorized under the drug class beta-blockers. The class of drugs is often combined with other medications to treat high blood pressure. Doctors give Cardivas CR to patients who had a heart attack that worsened who well the heart pumps. The active ingredient of Carvedilol cause relaxation of blood vessels, which allows blood to flow more easily to the heart. Lowering blood pressure prevents heart attacks and other complications.

Take Cardivas extended-release tablet with food. Take it once a day with water. Do not break or crush the tablet. If you have trouble swallowing the tablet, please talk to your doctor. Your doctor will decide the best dose of Cardivas extended-release tablet. One should keep taking medicine even if the blood pressure is controlled. Do not discontinue treatment without talking to your doctor. Making lifestyle modifications can help you improve your condition. Lifestyles changes include losing weight, regular exercise, reducing the amount of salt in the diet, reducing alcohol intake, as advised by the doctor. The medicine is safe and well-tolerated but may have a few side effects.

Do not take Cardivas CR 40 mg if you have severe heart failure and require injections to help improve blood circulation, have liver problems, have asthma, or have a slow heartbeat. Avoid taking this heart & blood pressure if you are hypersensitive to Carvedilol or other ingredients in the formulation. Also, let your doctor know if you have medical conditions, including lung problems, diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, pheochromocytoma, thyroid problems, and serious allergic reactions. Avoid abrupt withdrawal as it may lead to thyroid problems, worsen angina, myocardial infarction, and ventricular arrhythmias. An increase in the dose of Carvedilol could lead to worsening cardiac failure and fluid retention, especially in patients with peripheral vascular disease and angina. Cardivas may mask signs and symptoms of acute hypoglycaemia and hyperthyroidism. You should inform your doctor if you are pregnant or trying to conceive. It is still not known if Carvedilol is safe for your unborn baby. Therefore, you and the doctor should discuss the best way to control blood pressure during pregnancy. Breastfeeding women should not breastfeed while using this heart & blood pressure medicine.

Common side effects Cardivas 40 mg include diarrhea, tiredness, weight gain, shortness of breath, and diarrhea. If you wear contact lenses, you may have dry eyes or have few tears that can cause trouble. Talk to your doctor if you have side effects that persist for a longer duration or become troublesome. Serious side effects include chest pain, heart attack, low blood pressure, change in your blood sugar, worsening heart failure, numbness in your legs and feet, and severe allergic reactions. The symptoms of severe allergic reactions include swelling of the face, tongue, lips, throat that may cause difficulty breathing or swallowing. Call your doctor straight away if you develop any of these side effects.
