Almost everyone knows about the immense benefits of exercise. It improves not only physical health but mental health as well. Regular exercise boosts our mood to eliminate stress, anxiety, and depression if we have. One should minimum perform 30 to 45 minutes of exercise daily to stay flexible. Exercise can be performed in any form that you like; one can easily do it by going to either:

  • Gym
  • Jogging
  • Brisk walk
  • Yoga
  • Zumba
  • Aerobics
  • Playing sports like cricket, badminton, lawn tennis etc.

Regular exercise is a great combination of overall fitness, including mental and physical health

How does exercise benefit mental health?

Exercise doesn’t mean making the body muscular or lean; of course, it is one of the reasons, but this reason isn’t enough to keep everyone motivated. Most people do exercise to achieve an enormous sense of peace in life. Regular exercise helps people make their memory sharper, feeling of relaxation, staying positive, having a good night sleeps, and internal satisfaction. Experts believe that a  30 to 45 minutes exercise a day is equivalent to a powerful medication for many common brain health challenges. Regular exercise can positively lower/eliminate anxiety, depression, and ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder – a medical condition in which a patient experiences differences between brain development and brain activity). A few minutes of exercise can offer an immense sense of calmness to your mental health.

Exercise and Mental Health

Exercise and mental health are interlinked and associated with each other. It is a natural treatment to get rid of the anti-anxiety issue. The moment you get ready for the exercise, your brain starts feeling a sense of relief. For a better and soothing result, it is always good to move out in the morning hours for doing your exercise. Fresh air, greenery around, morning time, sounds of birds, no or very less traffic noise, your breathing rhythm, etc., elements promote mindfulness. Early morning is the best time that one could have spent time with himself/herself. Avoid thinking about your routine life (i.e. work, studies, family, friends, goals, targets, etc.) during exercise, and focus on doing it better and better as best as possible. Regular physical activity offers unparallel benefits, and some of them are:

  • Boost your mood, outlook and thinking ability
  • Sharper your memory
  • Offer a high sense of self-esteem
  • Sound sleep
  • Feeling energetic
  • Stronger resilience

How to keep yourself motivated for doing regular exercise?

Many people find it difficult to do regular exercise due to lack of interest, timing issues, or certain health conditions. Let us tell you that in case of developing interest, you can start your day with a 10 to 15 minutes session for initial 15 days. Later, you can gradually increase the time by adding 5 minutes extra every day until you reach to 40-45 minutes time limit. Even doing 10 minutes of exercise will be sufficient on a day, maybe when you feel low or have timings issues. You can also play a piece of music around you (if you like) while doing your exercise. Listening to soft music while doing exercise in the early morning help brain cells to charge up positively. To boost interest, you can also join a group of interests/activities where people come for sessions like yoga/aerobics/Zumba/physical sports or any other physical exercise etc.

Result or Outcome with Exercise

The day you start doing exercise, you will feel the difference after 15-20 days. Do not expect a drastic change in your physical appearance because you need to spend more hours and certain dietary changes in your routine life to achieve that sort of result. For balanced physical and mental health, the 30 to 45-minute session a day can do wonders. Make your exercise routine a fun part of your everyday life. Avoid skipping your sessions and keep moving to indulge yourself in exercise sessions to stay motivated and motivating, and fun-loving.
