The Department of Neuropsychology and Rehabilitation Psychology offers a variety of services to assist the patients by understanding their physical, cognitive, functional, and emotional difficulties related to any chronic illness, physical illness, injury, and disability. The goal of these services is to improvise the patient’s functional living skills and recovering from disabling medical illness or a particular injury. What is Rehabilitation Psychology?

Team of psychologists assist the person in adjusting to chronic, congenital injuries, or illnesses that result into a wide variety of physical, emotional, sensory, neurocognitive or developmental disabilities with the objective of increasing function, reducing disability and increasing participation in everyday roles and responsibilities.

The rehabilitation psychologists are skilled in applying their psychological knowledge and understanding on behalf of patients with disabilities and society through teaching, public education, research, clinical practice, development of social policy, and advocacy.

What is Neuropsychology?

Neuropsychologists focus on the nature and characteristics of abnormal brain behavior and how it affects the day to day activities of life of people who are living with such conditions. This can be a complicated process, that’s why a highly skilled staff member is required to provide diagnosis and treatment.

To better serve the patients, neuropsychology team continually works to understand the neurological complexities associated with a wide range of illnesses and injuries via research and further education.

  • Neuropsychological Evaluation: Neuropsychological evaluation majorly involves testing abilities such as visuospatial abilities, attention, memory, problem-solving, motor skills, emotional status, academic abilities and functional abilities that are assisted by diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation and educational or vocational planning.
  • Psychological Evaluation:In this, psychologists provide psychological evaluation services to evaluate factors like personality, mood, and coping resources to assist treatment planning. In addition, the team provides psychological evaluations for pre-surgical assessment.
  • Supportive Psychotherapy or Counseling –During psychotherapy, the Psychologist will help you to know about your condition like; your feelings, moods, thoughts, and behaviors. Psychotherapy helps you to learn about how to take control of your life and respond to the challenging situations by using healthy coping skills.
  • Behavioral Health Interventions:The psychologist’s team promotes health by aiding in the prevention and treatment of chronic health conditions. This treatment support evidence-based practices such as the use of behavioral strategies like relaxation training, training in self-management and cognitive-behavioral approaches.
