Arimidex 1 mg
Arimidex comprises of Anastrazole, which lowers estrogen levels in postmenopausal women, which in turn slows down the growth of certain types of breast cancer that requires estrogen to develop in the body. The medicine is specially developed for the treatment of breast cancer in postmenopausal women. It is often prescribed to women whose cancer has progressed after taking another anticancer medication called tamoxifen.
Uses of Arimidex 1 mg
Arimidex is indicated for the treatment of breast cancer in women who have gone through the menopause. It contains the active ingredient Anastrazole, which falls into the category of drugs known as aromatase inhibitors. Anastrozole works by decreasing the production of the estrogen hormone that your body secretes. It does this by blocking the activity of the aromatase enzyme.
Dosing Instructions
Always take the medicine exactly as your physician told you. You must check with your physician if you have any doubt about the dosing schedule.
The usual dose is one tablet ones per day. Swallow it with a drink of water. It doesn't matter whether you consume it with food or without food. Continue taking it as long as it is prescribed to you. Arimidex is a long-term treatment, and you may need to take medicine for several years.
The medicine should not be given to children and adolescents.
Other medications and Arimidex 1 mg
Let your physician know if you are using or have recently used any other medications including medicines obtained with or without prescription. This is necessary because Anastrozole can affect the mode of action of some medicines and some medicines may affect the way Arimidex works. Do not take the breast cancer drug if you are already taking tamoxifen, or medicines that contain estrogen such s hormone replacement therapy (HRT). If this applies to you, have words with your physician
Side Effects
The common side effects are
- Hot flushes
- Pain or stiffness in joints
- Arthritis, skin rash
- Feeling sick
- A headache
- Bone loss
- Weakness
- High blood pressure
- A sore throat or a cough
- Anxiety
- Nervousness
- Back pain
- Nausea or vomiting
These side effects of Arimidex are mild and may disappear within a few days or a couple of weeks. If they are more severe and doesn’t go away, talk to your physician.
Arimidex Warnings
Arimidex 1 mg can cause a severe allergic reaction. Symptoms may include, hives, trouble breathing, swelling of your throat and tongue. If you have any of these symptoms, call your physician immediately or visit the nearest health care center.
Do not take Anastrozole if you have ever had an allergic reaction to it. Taking it again can be harmful. If you are pregnant or are breastfeeding. Do not take this breast cancer drug and discuss an alternative.
