Acrotac 10 mg contains Aciterin, a synthetic retinoid that is an established treatment for psoriasis and exerts its effect mainly due to its anti-inflammatory properties. The medicine should only be used under the guidance of a physician who is experienced in using systematic retinoids and understands the risk of toxicity associated with Acitretin therapy.

Take Acetretin capsules with food. Be sure to take your medicine exactly as your doctor has prescribed. The dose varies from one patient to another. The number of capsules you need to take depend on your condition. Your doctor may change your dose as per condition and response to the treatment. If you miss a dose, do not double up the dose to compensate for the missed one. Skip the missed dose and restart with your normal dosing schedule. You may have blood tests to find liver function abnormality, cholesterol, and triglycerides levels before initiating the treatment and during the treatment to check your body’s response to Acrotac. Once you stop Aciterin therapy, your psoriasis may return. Do not treat this new psoriasis with the leftover medicine. It is important to consult your doctor once again for treatment recommendations because your situation may have changed.

Do not take Acrotac if you can get pregnant. You should not take the oral medicine if you are pregnant or might get pregnant during the treatment or at a time for at least three years after you discontinue Acitretin therapy. Acrotac can pass into your breast milk and may harm your baby. You will need to choose either to breastfeed or to take medicine. You should not take the retinoid formulation if you have severe liver, kidney disease, or repeated high blood lipids. Certain medicines can affect the way Acitretin works; avoid taking methotrexate and tetracyclines. The use of these medicines may cause serious side effects.

If you develop any of these side effects or any unusual reaction, check with your doctor to determine if you need to change the amount of Acrotac you take. These unwanted effects usually resolve if the medicine is reduced or stopped under the supervision of a doctor.
