Potrate 540 mg are potassium citrate extended-release tablet used to treat a kidney stone called renal tubular acidosis. It is used to make the urine less acidic. This medicine helps the kidneys to get rid of uric acid, thereby helping to prevent gout or kidney stones. Potassium is an essential electrolyte for carrying out a wide range of bodily functions. It has many other benefits, including blood pressure regulation, maintaining water balance, or PH balance in the body and muscle contraction. It also aids food digestion and maintains a normal heart rhythm. Its deficiency can cause kidney stones, weakness, nausea, constipation, irregular heartbeat, or muscle cramps. If you have a problem that requires you to limit your sodium and potassium intake, your doctor may recommend a lower potassium and sodium product.  

Treatment with Potrate extended-release tablets should be added to a regimen that limits salt intake and encourages high fluid intake. Use it in the dose and duration as your health care specialist advises for best results.  

Potrate 540 mg is not recommended if you are allergic to potassium or have severe kidney problems. Common side effects of Potrate 540 mg include nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, stomach pain, and the appearance of potassium citrate in the stool. Serious side effects of the medicine include uneven heart, leg discomfort, extreme thirst, confusion, anxiety, severe stomach pain, black/ bloody stools, muscle weakness, numbness or tingling feeling, and coughing up blood or vomiting.
